Re: 2025 Draft
On an aside, I wouldn't have traded Stew for anybody picked at or after #17.
Also NIL killed the second round dead. More guaranteed money to stay in school. Gonna see a lot of five year seniors in the second round going forward.

But that doesn't really kill the 2nd round. It maybe removes the raw Freshman type players coming out because they want to get paid... guys with big upset but more boom/bust.
You just get more established players in the 2nd round that are less risky because you've seen them for four years... maybe a little less upside. Guys like Sasser.

They've got a mess of a roster centered around one of the least healthy players in the league, they play in a conference that'll be remarkably strong next season, next summer's draft is projected as very strong, and the pick is UNPROTECTED. Even if the Pelicans miraculously end up doing well in the West, the pick is the most favorable of the Pelicans or Bucks, and Milwaukee could struggle next season given Dame's absence.
The fact that the selection itself was highly questionable just makes matters worse.

Re: 2025 Draft
I think Joe Dumars is operating like a person who isn't afraid to take risks. Poole trade is obviously a risk but age wise lines up better with the rest of the team and also a player they can kind a bit with some of the other players they have.
Derik Queen has Troy Weaver all over it as a player who is from the same area as him DC/Baltimore and a guy but many did he ever do poorly in the draft combine. He's not the athlete and doesn't have the lateral quickness you'd hope for.... That said, he does have a comfort with the ball for a big man I am guessing they like the way he pairs with Zion. a
C: Queen
PF: Zion
SF: Trey Murpy III / Herb
SG: Poole/ Herb
PG: Murray / Jose
They'd be smart to use Poole as a super sub 6th man and let him be option #1 with the bench unit like we do for Beasley but I doubt he accepts that role.

They'll take their lumps but at least Queen will be getting some burn. It's a similar situation with our team prior to winning. Young players have to learn how to play nba basketball before they can win. IMO OKC is one-off. I definitely didn't think they could win this year.

Re: 2025 Draft
17 and 19 are the picks we would have had in this draft if we’d not traded for Duren and Stewart. We had that pick that ended up at 19 through the Jerami Grant trade and we used it to trade for Duren.
It’ll be interesting in coming years to see what guys picked in that range become.

Re: 2025 Draft
According to Jake Fischer of The Stein Line (Twitter link), the Hornets (either No. 33 or No. 34), Raptors (No. 39), Warriors (No. 41) and Thunder (No. 44) are also open to trading their second-round picks. ESPN identified Charlotte this morning as a team to monitor with one of its early second-rounders.

Re: 2025 Draft
Probably would trade their second second rounder and want future seconds. Not sure giving up two future seconds to jump two teams would be worth it. I guess then trade our current pick for future second back. We don't need two second rounders out of this draft.

Re: 2025 Draft
Queen is not going to be able to play pro center defensively, not the slightest chance in hell. He has some interesting traits on offense, for sure, but he’s going to stink defensively anywhere — too slow to not play center, but not a rim protector at all.
If he gets in great shape and avoids the problems of the guy he reminds me of (a lesser Derrick Coleman), he’ll be a player, but the pairing with Zion is awful and Dumars/Weaver greatly overpaid to get him.
Ugly.

Re: 2025 Draft
wonder what phoenix has up their sleeves trading up just before us...
and not sure what a second round green room entails, i guess they just get an interview when they're picked?

Shams says they’re trying to move up for Fleming

Re: 2025 Draft
Detroit brought Lanier in, linked a lot here in mocks. Seems like maybe a promise was made.

Huh? There's a guy named Lanier in the draft?

I think he's related to Bob Lanier, too.

Re: 2025 Draft
Trajan must have not had a high evaluation on Flemming.
We have a war chest of seconds that could have been used to move up.
We’ll see how this goes.
