I like him too, but the salary projections for him is more than I'd be comfortable paying a 5th guard. I don't know historically how accurate those are, but $15 mil range is way too much for that role.

I don't trust them to do anything. I'm simply stating there are multiple avenues to open up another roster spot, if they see someone in the 2nd they really want.

Carter isn't some trash player. He just didn't work out here. He was a contributor on two contending teams before he came to the Bulls. He simply doesn't have a role here. He can still be a vet who can give spot minutes. $6 million is taxpayer MLE money. It's definitely not a lot of money. Not saying it would be the easiest thing in the world, but it's definitely not some untradeable contract.

If you didn't believe you would be able to use that 2nd rounder it makes sense to trade it. That could mean a couple things. They want Jones back, which they do and or they want space to trade 1 for 2's which they do.

While I would have kept the pick until I saw who was on the board it does make some sense to trade this pick away and or move back and take a stash guy.

If there are roster spot issues, you trade the 2nd for a future 2nd. That's what a good org like the Spurs did, they traded their 2nd for a future 2nd from Indiana. The fact that the Spurs did it proves other teams are willing to make that kind of deal.

This was 100% just a money move. It has nothing to do with basketball. They didn't save themselves a roster spot this year and didn't get any future assets.
