I don't see how we can trade Dame now without attaching anything. Who is going to want to light $54M on fire this year while Dame sits on the bench?

I don't think he's going anywhere.

And you don't think we are considering attaching an asset to get off his contract? I mean a basement team that has no chance to win this season may consider it no?

Reaves is Middleton Lite with a chance to be Middleton Prime. I'll die on the hill that he' the perfect fit for Giannis. Him and KPJ would be a huge upside backcourt, yeah its a risk but it's the exact risk we should be taking.

dame when he comes back healthy could have similar value as durant just had as early as next summer or midseason in 26-27. kyrie just signed a massive extension on a similar timeline. boston surely isnt punting tatum nor will indy devalue haliburton. consider what theyd be worth if they were auctioned right now?

its possible a tanking team this coming year realizes this and takes dame on solely for the purpose of flipping him for multiple assets later. he'd be a "good investment" for them that allows tanking and team building in trade at a later date once hes playing.

hes basically in bubble wrap now getting healthy until the time we or they would want to flip him.

so yes....i think its extremely possible he currently has a swappable contract where we wouldnt have to attach anything. the sole problem is there isnt a ton of teams in the category we could trade with and what would they practically give up that could help now and more importantly in the long run?

i think its also possible that if we keep him we also recognize this. trading him now even if its just for viable dudes we'd be giving up a potentially huge future asset that might be coveted by half the league including even teams desperate for his services. how desperate should we be to win next year really? ive suggested not much. alot depends on what giannis mindset is as to how we use the dame asset. and yes...hes still an asset. hes just a complicated one

so fwiw...i think dame and the 31,32 picks have a ton of value INDEPENDENTLY to tanking teams. biggest handicap is what players we'd actually want. theres not alot of teams even in the mix like that right now

I agree with his fit. To me he is an older Tyler Herro and that's the kind of deal he probably gets.

Is there any chance Dame will be ready by the playoffs next year? Guessing no, but if there is any chance, I feel like we just need to get a 6 seed or better. That is doable with the current roster minus Brook.

8-10 months from June puts him potentially around some time in February at best case scenario to April being a little more realistic. I think there’s a chance he comes back the last 10 games or so before the playoffs for a run. That’s my opinion anyway.

Agree with this, but there's no avenue to get him. At all.

Sure, there is a chance. We just have no idea what he’ll look like. This could be career ending for him, or he could bounce back and look the same as he did prior.

The latter development would be the best thing for us now, clearly, but also would give us our second biggest asset back. We need his recovery to go well.

dame will be "back" by the new year. running, jumping, shooting, doing interviews about how great he feels...and not playing.

8-10 month timeline get him back somewhere betweeen late dec and late feb. if we hold him out longer it will be a strategic decision nothing to do with being cleared.

bottom line.....at the deadline he'll be an asset for us or others. we need to rely on his agent and/or our drs to either create his market or use him ourselves for a late season run.

if you disagree with this argue with him. he aint trying to miss all of next season i guarantee you

Thats my point though. Youre not getting anything for Dame thats going to move the needle for this season and youre going to have to spend assets to do it. Its incredibly myopic.

The play is to wait until next offseason when his expiring contract is neutral and he could bounce back and add value to any deal.

I believe 40% of Dame's next season salary is covered by insurance. Insurance pays out 80% of salary after 41 games missed.
This reduces the negative value of his contract. Enough to make him an asset, no, but owners always care about the bottom line.

I would do this in a heartbeat, but I don't think Ajax has any where near that kind of value. Maybe more realistically gets us around #40 or something.

Luckily for them I'll also include elite forward Chris Livingston, or another future 2nd

his contract is neutral right now to any team in this league not trying to win next year. probably better than neutral. a fine investment even

We aren't trading Dame, you will never receive anything of value more than Dame's final 2026-27.

Dame won't play this upcoming season, even if he's ready at the end of the season, at his age after what just happened you give him the entire year (including postseason if we make it) off.

These are the facts, let's face them and see what the other options are for now.

so let me get this straight...hes medically cleared in February latest and we make the playoffs and he is ok with sitting? we tell him he needs to not play for the thrid year in a row even tho this is the first one hes actually healthy and rested?

yeah...good luck with that. i think he demands to be out there unless we are intent he never wears our uniform again and if thats the case hes probably gone at the deadline if we have any decent season going at all next year.

What can we get off San Antonio for a Brook S&T? He seems like the perfect complimentary player to Wemby to play with and spell. They could roll out Fox, Castle and Harper with Brook and Wemby behind them, could be a new thing - 3 smalls and twin towers….

You can't possibly think he'll be any good after that much time off, plus the loss of speed from the injury?

The only upside to getting him back would be if he came back before the trade deadline.
