At the same time, we need tradable assets and the thought of giving him the most we can on a 1 year deal so that we can move him at the deadline as part of a larger package is an option.

I think I'm over Looney. He just doesn't give us enough. Rather get another vet big like Horford, Jaylin Williams, Brook Lopez, maybe even sandro mamukelashvili, or yabusele.

I'd move TJD in a heartbeat. He was so bad last year. Couldn't finish and his defense was non existent. Would take a shot at Dylan Cardwell or Amari Williams as udfa. Maybe even Braxton Key.

The question is cost. We don’t have a lot to work with. It’s part of the reason a 1 year deal and raise might be worth exploring as it opens up a movable asset at the deadline. Same for GP2. Tho I think he has much more value than Loon. I’d just be hesitant to give him more than a year and once again, a raise and return on 1 year might be smart for a future trade at the deadline.

It's going to be really hard for some players to get accustomed to our system. Rather get them at the beginning of the year so they have to get acclimated to our system. I guess if we strike out in FA that's better than anything but i'd hope they have a few people in mind.

Would love if we got any type of value for TJD. Just need 1 vet and then I'd take a shot with either Braxton Key or Cardwell to replace TJD. I like Cardwell a lot.

41 + tjd or cash should be plenty if we want to move up

Lakers must want someone at 45 that they think won't be there at 55. That's cutting it pretty fine. They also cap themselves at the 2nd Apron by sending cash, guess that's not a problem for them.

I would guess a center. I really don't want them to get Cardwell.

Technically, we're still in the 2024-25 NBA season. Does sending cash out before July 1 impact the following season? It used to be the allowed cash out and in for trades reset on July 1. Maybe the latest CBA changed that.

Yeah, between the end of the season and July 1 applies to the next season.

Edit: I may have been unclear, I don't think I answered your question. Cash still resets on July 1, but the Lakers had cash from this year to send in trades, so the restriction applies. A 2nd Apron team couldn't send cash, if you send cash you're hard-capped.

I get that there is probably no pick at 41 that's going to help this season. But why go with two even worse pick slots? I guess one or both might be draft and stash picks. I wonder if they tried to trade out of the draft completely into a future draft.

I think the plan is to get those second round picks signed to a rookie srp contract at $1m. We are trying to get to the minimum 14 players and stay under the first apron. The goal is likely for Kuminga to settle for the 1 year QO at $8m so we can utilize the full MLE. There are no market interest for kuminga’s service.

This is an interesting, if something sad, thought. I hope not. There go my Reynaud dreams

This is the option i wanted least.
Option 1: trade up for someone who slipped
Option 2: trade down/out for multiple future picks
Option 3: stay at our slot and take best of folks available
Option 4: trade down

I suppose its still possible to trade for future 2nds, but not really any hope of any of the few guys im aware of being available at 52. Of course i wasnt aware of Post last draft and didnt think TJD would be available where we took him so who knows.

According to this ranking, at 52 I can still hope for Raynaud, Kalkbrenner, or Sion James so I guess i shouldnt be too bummed about trading down. Another important note is that im rarely right on 2nd rd prospects and watched little to no tape this year.
