Re: Tom Thibodeau fired pt 2
My take on why Pacers beat then Knicks.
The position-less basketball has to go and how do you not make a trade at the February deadline and not get more help ??
You got players that can play multiple positions they say it’s a game changer. But having a player that can play so many positions, does it do more harm than good ?
now you put the player in position of getting burnt out, playing too many minutes , facing fresher players in the opposite team or possibly getting injured. Sometimes they’re getting outplayed , playing against quicker and smaller players , or bigger and stronger players. You have to constantly adjust your game for the opposition , rather than just play your game and play off your strength.
You can’t always rely on players that are career
Small forwards and use them to play against a natural power forward (big man ) . They approach the game differently. They live off the post , they have post up game , they train to box out .
You saw how OG was outclassed by Siakam. OG had to rely on pure skill which he was able to hang for awhile but that wasn’t enough. you have to train and live as a power forward to really be one.
Same thing with Karl Anthony Towns . He’s terrible defensively but He is a stretch 4 not a true center . He cannot bang , he rather shoot than post up . Playing him against Myles Turner was also a matchup issue.
Mikal Bridges. He was forced to defend Haliburton . Halliburton is a Guard. And has handles . There are things and tricks that Guards do that a player like Mikal Bridges won’t be able to understand because Bridges is a natural Small forward.
Is unfortunate that Brunson is undersized and guarding Haliburton was also a struggle.
Not so long ago it was all about matchups and you played your natural position and you guard who you were supposed to guard throughout the whole game. Whenever the opposite player would be subbed out you would sub out as well.
Let’s take a look of our 7 - man rotation that Coach Thibs used for most of the season.
Robinson - C
Towns - PF/C
OG- SF/PF/SG/ some small ball Center
Bridges - SF/SG/PF
Hart- SG/SF/PF
McBride - PG/SG/SF
Brunson - PG/SG
Precious - PF/C
OG , Bridges and Hart were getting the most minutes . At times they looked burnt out, outplayed , beat off the dribble , outmuscled in the paint.
Last year it was more of a plug and play and Coach Thibs utilized his bench. The only
Player that was being overused was Josh Hart.
But we had the players that were designed for their position and also because the coach had to play some of these guys due to injury.
Hartenstejn/ Robinson /Sims
Randle/ Precious
OG/ Hart / Bogdanovich
Divencenzo / Burks
Brunson / McBride
In conclusion it’s both Leon’s and Thibs fault for us losing against the Pacers.
You can’t just think not trading for help off the e bench is going to help us.
You can’t also shut off Kolek , precious , Shamet all season long and expect 3 of your started to play multiple positions and play heavy minutes all year …

The dehumanising posts should not be a part of this discussion.
That’s for this other thread, or maybe for no threads at all

It's an ordinary joke. Maybe you're upset because you didn't understand it. Let me explain: "Canned" means getting fired. We used to call Thibs the "orc". So here we have "canned orc". It's a play on words.
And yes, the players were asked for their input before Thibs was let go. They wanted a change for all the same reasons Thibs' most vocal critics wanted a change.
It was a decision made by Leon, Dolan, AND the players....so if the players don't want to play for the coach anymore...how can you keep him? He HAD to go....

May this thread live on forever as a monument of justice exacted in behalf of Thibs' victims.
The minutes police are thankful to all cooperating witnesses who helped secure the prosecution of this war criminal.
Special thanks to the prosecution's star witness, Mikal Bridges, a true hero and a shining example of courage in the face of threats and intimidation.

Shallow roster? Depleted? We were the healthiest team in the playoffs and Thibs ran 7.5 guys through the first 16 games before he even tried to use his bench...for one game.
Thibs got Thibs fired because he's a relic of a bygone era and has no clue how to coach in today's NBA. We weren't depleted. We were out coached by Carlisle and took an L in a series we should have won.
Who was on the bench again? Pretty much no game changers. Knicks had to hope that rookies suddenly broke out when they take time to develop.
Everyone and their mom knew that going into this season the Knicks were shallow and lacked the depth to beat Boston. The KAT trade guaranteed that and the Bridges trade guaranteed that they have no future.
The team is in WIN NOW mode, so firing a coach who over achieved and got to the conference finals without a better option is just mind blowing. Not saying he's perfect or amazing, he's got flaws, but he was solid and best coach since JVG.
We'll see what the Knicks end up doing and how it works out, but they don't really have the financial flexibility to fix the roster without making another big trade and getting pennies on the dollar and downgrading the roster.
12 healthy bodies. When he finally used more than TWO of them, it helped him win a game. He HAD TO use them because of foul trouble. He never used them again and we lost the series. He's out of a job. It's kinda obvious why.
Um, 12 healthy bodies is meaningless, when those bodies are still learning the ins and outs of the NBA. Not sure why people think that bench players are all plug and play and you don't have to worry about development, just throw them out there. Put me on the team and that's a body LOL.

No one is saying anything you're suggesting here. Thibs got fired for thinking like you. The conversation is over. Bye.

Re: Tom Thibodeau fired pt 2
Before the season almost every sports outlet had us as contenders after the KAT trade.
In every explanation as to why, it spoke on the team's talent......none of the articles mentioned how coaching gave the Knicks any sort of advantage.
We are stacked with guys who make big plays on both ends...and the we have the most clutch closer in the league. Fizdale could have coached this team past the Pistons, and this roster was built to beat the Celtics......but when Thibs actually had to use his brain and coach vs Indy, he got exposed.
Thus, the FO and the players unanimously wanted Thibs outta here. Glad he's gone.

Not a single analyst had us beating the Celtics. If you think Fizdale gets this team to conference finals, I'm just going to laugh at you.

THE THIBS haters are going to be in for a rude awaking when the New coach wins 44 games with the same lame bench.
The first red flag, was Leon trading for KAT...That was a FCK YOU THIBS, I'm calling the shots.
The first sign of the end of FRONT OFFICE REGIME is the firing of the Coach, if the replacement doesn't have much better results you will 100% be fired.
Next Prez has no Cap space, no tradable picks, no bench, they very opposite of what LEON HAD...

No one said either of those things... it's like you're creating your own thoughts in your mind and inventing an argument to have with yourself.
Ive already shown the headlines and articles before the season where many sports outlets were saying the Knicks are contenders: Knicks proved they are.
Leon got KAT and Mikal with the intention of beating the Celtics: we did that.
As far as the Pistons go, they have half the talent the Knicks have. Should have swept them. A monkey could have coached our talent through that series.
What are you going on about?
So glad Thibs is gone. Such an awful, outdated coach.

Newsflash, the Knicks were already contenders before that trade, but every one still said they were a step below Boston in talent with the shallow bench that Leon gave us. Yes, we beat Boston and overachieved, but Tatum was hurt for the end of it and KP was sick for the whole thing.
Pistons play very tough defense. It was a battle but the Knicks won 4-2. LOL @ it wasn't a sweep, therefor it's Thibbs' fault.
