There has to be a RJ and others package for a big this offseason. We are too guard deep with no playing time.

Martin is going to see minutes at both the 1&2 thanks to his defense and shooting. I can see them running him with Scottie who can run the offense.

IQ/Shead/Martin
RJ/Ochai/Gradey/JKW
BI/CMB
Scottie/Mogbo
Poeltl

I think RJ is the odd man out tbh. We badly need a back up 4, and a back up 5.

i think martin will be with the 905 all year barring injury - unless there's a trade or he simply outplays shead.

Who can RJ fetch? I don’t think anyone in the league values him

39. Toronto Raptors

Alijah Martin | 6-2 guard | 23 years old | Florida

Vecenie’s rank: 37

If I were working on the NBA team side, Martin is one of those guys who I would just want in my organization. He’s the epitome of a winner. He’s tough and strong. He asserts his athleticism on the game and on his opponents in a serious way. Defensively, he’s tough and a terrific on-ball defender. He fights and scraps for loose balls and has a fairly sizable shooting track record at this point. Even if he’s not elite as a shooter, he has at least proven that he’s confident taking them. His presence this year gave Florida the attitude and aggressiveness that it needed to win a national title. Still, the size absolutely puts a ceiling on what Martin can do at the NBA level. And even though I buy into him being helpful, it’s probably not more than on a two-way contract at the end of the day. Still, Martin might be the first player that I would call if I had an open two-way this year. I would draft him to secure his services on a two-way. If he had any semblance of NBA-level ball skills, I would absolutely have him higher than this. But without them, it’s just a bit too hard of a sell at any higher level than that.

Hollinger’s analysis: Martin can defend and he can jump, and he can make an open shot. However, his limited handle at 6-2 makes it difficult to find an NBA position for him, and he’ll have to go to a situation where he can play off the ball next to bigger wings who can handle. Toronto would seem to offer that with the presence of big wings like Brandon Ingram and R.J. Barrett who can play on the ball, so he may be able to carve out a role here.

Some immediately playable depth at the 2, which wasn’t exactly a need, unless they have some moves coming. Maybe he can play nominal PG in lineups where Scottie is doing the creation.

Thought they’d go with a ready made C to fill out the depth chart, curious to see how the roster ends up shaking out.

I like Martin. Feels like they are hoping for Norm Powell but with defence, which is not a bad ceiling, even if the scoring development is a question mark.

One thing I really noticed this past season is how much strength plays a role in getting to your spots on offense & how much it can help defenders prevent offensive players from getting where they want to go.

Look at Luka on O.

Watching Davion, Kyle & Fred made me appreciate how good undersized guards can be defensively when they are strong & have a some bulk.

Shead will get there too.

I'm going to be honest, I don't really understand the logic with this one

At least I could talk myself into CMB last night, but they've lost me here

Guys this is the 2nd round. Best case he’ll split time between the G League and waving towels at the end of the bench.

It's the 2nd round. Logic is: pick the player you think has the best shot at cracking an NBA rotation AND is willing to take the contract terms you are going to give them.

Kind of refreshing to draft a defensive player with an ok 3pt shot.

Postering thinking he's going to be just for the 905 will have another thing coming. Martin is a beast and he's going to force the coaching staff to give him minutes

I burst out laughing at the bolded. Vecenie had this guy 37 (2 spots higher than where we picked him) and thinks he has no semblance of NBA-level ball skills. Meanwhile people were hoping to use this pick to fill our C gap????

There has to be a RJ and others package for a big this offseason. We are too guard deep with no playing time.

Martin is going to see minutes at both the 1&2 thanks to his defense and shooting. I can see them running him with Scottie who can run the offense.

IQ/Shead/Martin
RJ/Ochai/Gradey/JKW
BI/CMB
Scottie/Mogbo
Poeltl

I think RJ is the odd man out tbh. We badly need a back up 4, and a back up 5.

CMB is a 4. I mean he’s an interchangeable wing but he’s going to play more 4/5 than he is 3/4. Battle will also be in there somewhere.

IQ / Shead / Martin
RJ / Gradey / Walter
Ingram / Ochai / Battle
Scottie / CMB
Poeltl / Mogbo / FA / Chomche

There’s a consolidation trade coming at some point in the future but they’re going to run a 10 man rotation and Martin / Chomche will be in the G League. I would also be willing to bet they sit Ingram a bunch to keep him healthy. So the minutes will be there for everyone, even if it seems tight now. They really need a backup center, assuming Castleton isn’t it. Poeltl is pretty durable but Mogbo cant be the only other C-ish guy on the roster.
