Welcome to Detroit Chaz Lanier

Post#1 » by whitehops » Fri Jun 27, 2025 1:13 am

with the 37th overall pick... meet Chaz Lanier, super senior out of Tennessee:

he's a 2-guard that can shoot the lights out and i think his shot will translate really well to the league. he gets his shot off super quick and get it off in many different ways (catch and shoot, off screens, off the dribble). he's not afraid to take (and make) contested 3s and has really deep range. he also has a little juice off the dribble, mainly being able to attack closeouts and finish either mid range or at the rim. he's also athletic with solid size (6'5 with a 6'9 wingspan).

his defense is iffy so that will likely dictate how much he plays but he's an insane weapon for cade offensively.

Can’t expect anything better at #37.

If he’s athletic, works hard and has the right coach, he can improve the D. At least he can shoot like a pro.

I'm hoping to resign Beasley to a fair contract. But we probably don't have the money to bring back both Beasley and THJ. As a rookie, he'll likely be a step down from either of them - maybe a big step down. But it allows us to focus our cap expenditure on more important things.
Tom Gores' Securus faced a class action lawsuit in 2024. The company engaged in a "quid pro quo kickback scheme" with county jails in Michigan which banned in-person visits in order to maximize revenue from voice and video calls.

Let’s call him “Logo Lanier”!

Hopefully it catches on like “Beef Stew”

We get Ivey back who was much better than THJ behind the arc. I'm not worried.

Only two Laniers drafted in NBA history, both by the Pistons.

Hopefully the shooters can bring more to the game than just shooting. When THJ and Beasley went cold, they provided nothing else for the team

Can someone that has done more research share the pros and cons of Lanier vs Koby Brea?

The seem to have a lot of similarities as upper classmen shooters.

I was hoping for a pf, but I'll take a 2nd rounder with a league ready skill.
Let's go Chaz!!

Obviously the highlight package isn’t everything, as he only shot 43% overall, but on his perimeter makes he rarely gets any rim. Pretty shot, fast release, solid elevation. He could be useful down the line. Solid pick.

Looks like we’ll move on from Thjr and Sasser will probably be moved in a deal soon.

Lanier has the fifth-fastest lane agility time (an indicator of change of direction ability), the third-fastest standing vertical jump, and the seventh-fastest maximum vertical jump. He hasn't been known for his defense, but he appears to have the tools to defend.

This makes it easier to sign Beasley to a shorter deal, knowing we have Lanier for the longer haul. It also gives some protection should things change and Beasley moves on or gets injured. I'm assuming Hardaway isn't being resigned at this point.

I think Beas priced himself out and Lanier will fill his role. THJ probably could be kept much cheaper and was a very key veteran voice for the team.

That could very well be what's going on. There's definitely another move or two ahead with the guard logjam and front court needs.

Im not all that interesting in bringing back THJr but Beasley can get the full MLE$14mil and we have rights on Tim and Shröder to give them bigger contracts if need be
