"Benedict Mathurin about to tear both Achilles at once." (He wears the number 00). A joke, of course. No idea you could have a jersey number 00

Discuss.

You've been here since 2002 and didn't know a player could wear 00?

Robert Parish played for 20+ years wearing 00

Maybe he's dyslexic?

someone double check me but I believe that even though he wore other numbers at different times, Demarcus Cousins suffered his achilles injury while wearing the number zero.

No Number Zero has ever been retired by any team. So it's way more widely available than most numbers. In the old days, jerseys were limited to one through 5 for both digits so the ref could communicate the fouls more easily.

I suspect Westbrook or Dame will be the first to have his zero retired, depending on who quits first. (Parish's 00 is retired)

This sinks the conspiracy theory that the additional weight of an extra digit leads to injury.

NERD FOOTNOTE: The most retired jersey number in the league (aside from #6 for Russell): #32 which is retired by 13 teams, followed by #33 retired by 9 teams, and #24 retired by 8 teams.

I think Robert Parish was still on a bench at that point.

On a less serious note though it def kept Avery Bradley from learning how to dribble.

Think if anyone it's Agent Zero aka Gil Arenas. Sitting at home with his Vooddo dolls, trying to make sure they don't have a longer peak than him.

ETYMOLOGY
O = Cycle
O Tatum achilles tendon injury
O Haliburton achilles tendon injury
O Lillard achilles tendon injury

Medical can get better at preventing these injuries. It's from strain.
For example before Bryant tore his, he played 48 minutes per game repeatedly while guarding the other teams best player

Self inflicted mental injuries and an inability to follow rules.

The gungate is not why he's out of the league.

Wasn’t it Gerald Wallace that dove into his knee and then he’s basically done as a player after surgery? It was stupid for him to do what he did, but he wasn’t going to be Agent Zero anymore regardless. He does have a knack of making clutch shots in the regular season, but too bad the Washington was never a serious threat even in the east.

The CURSE of #0

Post#34 » by Shem » Fri Jun 27, 2025 1:57 am

The 2025 NBA playoffs featured three players that each went down with achilles injuries and all three will be out for the 2025-2026 season.

-Damian Lillard of Milwaukee
-Jayson Tatum of Boston
-Tyrese Haliburton

What do these players have in common? All three of them wear the #0!!!

Pretty sure any player that suffers 2 meniscus tears in the span of 2 years is pretty much cooked so yeah.

The curse had him getting DNP's this season for no apparent reason. Curse will get you one way or another. Mathurin needs to change his jersey number ASAP.

Tatum will be fine. On track to return soon after All Stat Break. His never had a history of serious injury before and looks after his body well.
