Every year there are consensus top five guys that end up being relatively or total busts and every year there’s at least a few second rounders that end up having a career, so inherently people needs to be humble enough in that teams and experts can easily be wrong, let alone the amateurs
As for Yang we will see, the training programs in China has been poor and the separation gotten further with the us in the last 15-20 years, so if you want to look on the bright side if you’re worried about his athleticism reaching the minimum threshold maybe once he gets into the NBA program it might improve more than you’d think
On the tape his spin moves are pretty legit and he is like Jokic in the sense that he will definitely go at you if you’re just switching a smaller guy on him, in the CBA alot of times he’s guarded by ex NBA guys so you’d think he should be fine against most backup bigs
Given the size and skill you’d think teams will have a hard time just single covering him and once you double the pass really comes into play, offensively I think it’ll work fine as long as you can actually space the floor ok
Defensively the concern is legit but he is 7’2 and certainly not a noodle and his reaction looks a lot faster than Zhou Qi did, if the bar is can he be a backup we need to remember he’s going up against plenty of guys that might end up in China too
