i'm bullish on ochai. i think he can be a norm/nesmith type of player.
goga is a backup that won't ever be a starter.

i wouldn't do it. like ochai can start right now.

that would put us into the tax unless we make other moves too

Not when we cut Lawson n Castleton

we are at 188.1M for 14 man right now with lawson and castleton

replacing lawson and castleton with 2nd round minimum contracts/roster hold puts us at 186.2M. Bitadze makes 2M more than Agbaji = 188.2M which puts us over the tax line of 187.9M

What's the minimum roster for cap purposes? Replace Lawson with Aljiah, replace Castleton+Ochai for goga

minimum roster is 1.26M. Castleton+Lawson is 4.45M, replace w/ 2 minimum roster hold = save 1.9M only. thats not enough to cover the difference between Agbaji and Goga, hence trading agbaji for Goga will leave us in the tax

I see the Nesmith comp, not norm tho. I wouldn't really want Ochai to start, I wouldn't expect Nesmith to be starting in the finals either so. I think it's solid 25yr old for solid 25yr old.

Although I wouldn't really be suggesting this if we had another 5 already.

Roster is a significant Poeltl injury away from lottery again. Lack of size can't be ignored. But maybe their thinking is size isn't as important now. Still would be nice to have a decent backup C on bench that could eat up minutes.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Honestly Masai & co have done a tremendous job building this team back up.

I’m so excited for this season!

I would say just based on history, backup 5 is not a position Masai is willing to pay a high price to fill.

That is certainly true recently but at same time we had JV and Yak, then we got Serge. Ran with Val and Serge platoon until we got Marc and Serge. Those were pretty expensive, 5s both in draft capital given up and salary.

Neither JV or Jak got drafted to be a long term backup 5 I'm sure as high lotto picks.

Serge played both 4 and 5 and he primarily played the 4 when he first got traded here. They only went to a platoon the following season after Nurse took over.

Marc obviously came out as a starter as well.

Masai is willing to invest in the position but it's been when he sees an opportunity to upgrade the starting lineup rather than the bench.

Is there a team out there that has 8 Cs on their roster? Maybe Utah actually

Portland is the obvious target. Ayton or Timelord

timelord is always hurt
ayton makes a lot

i don't see the trade proposal that works

Timelord and Dani for RJ straight up works perfectly.

You can see a bit of a blueprint in the team they are trying to create.

You can see the holes on the roster.

You can see the salary crunch coming.

You can also see RJ and more so Dick stick out like sore thumbs.

Will be interesting what they do next.

That'd be a home run for Barrett, not sure why Portland does that though.

The Raptors can carry a full 15-man roster next season while remaining under the tax threshold, if the remaining 3 roster spots are are filled by 3 rookie minimum deals (including Alijah Martin as 1 of them).

IQ/Shead
RJ/JaKobe/Martin
Ingram/Gradey/Battle
Scottie/Ochai/Mogbo
Poeltl/CMB

That's 13 locked in NBA contracts for next season. Castleton and Lawson at $0 guaranteed, but luxury tax hits worth more than the rookie minimum, means they could both be easily cut and replaced with 2 other rookie minimum deals like Omoruyi and Degenhart (I used them as examples because they're 2 undrafted guys we just signed, I don't think it would be them specifically) to round out a 15-man roster instead of 14, if they aren't both rookie minimums.

Considering how much harsher the repeater penalties are about to become, I seriously doubt ownership gives the FO authorization to start the repeater clock this year, on this squad as is. I also doubt they put themselves in another Dragic situation where they kick the can down the road and risk leveraging themselves because the entire league knows they need to get under the tax by the end of the season.

Another possibility is the Nets with Claxton or Sharpe since they brought in Wolf. Also Goga on the Magic as mentioned by others.

Gonna have to be a trade as they're not gonna be able to sign anyone being right up against the tax/apron

RJ and Gradey do seem like the obvious ones out if they wanna go all-in with this defensive identity while rebalancing the roster.

We gotta fix the IQ/RJ/BI trio.

We can’t have 3 mid to bad defenders on the floor at the same time anymore.

But you can’t throw out an all defensive lineup that can’t score either. They’ll mix and match.
