I'd pretty easily trade #4 for some of those Nets picks.

But why though?
This isn't the NFL.
I'm struggling to think of any situation where a team actually benefitted from trading a high pick for multiple lower ones

You posted a diametrically opposed take to what I saw analysts saying, so I mentioned it and shared the post. The Wizards are specifically not trying to get better this season, because they lose a FRP they really need if they do.
They have been accumulating expiring salary despite having zero history attracting marquee FAs and not being close to being ready to win. They are doing a hard reset, not gearing up to start winning.
It just does not compute to me to say they're trying to win and that's why they're trading for old, declining guys on expirings.
At what point did I say "they are trying to win"?
Fair point, I saw "get better" and thought that was what you meant. My bad.
I still maintain that they haven't really been trying to get better, at least in the sense of improving on the court (maybe you're not saying they're trying to do that either, sorry if I got that wrong). They got Smart because they sent Zinger (talent decrease). They got Brogdon because they sent Deni (in hindsight, major mistake). They got Middleton because MIL wanted to get better. They got McCollum because NOP wanted to upgrade. WAS got 1sts or 1st swaps in all those deals.
I do think they've been prudent in building up draft assets and recognizing that they're needing to start over, but I don't see it as a quick turnaround and I think the vets are primarily there because the teams that traded them were wanting to upgrade and used draft assets to do it.

Because in this instance pretty much all the guys in our range are on the same level, especially #4 and #8.
#4 for #8, #19 and a future 1st.
Or, basically, Ace for two of Queen/Flemming/Kon/Fears/Sorber/CMB/Bryant/Maluach etc.

In what world are any of these guys falling to the 20 except maybe Fleming and Sorber.

Re: Around the NBA 13
4 and 8 fall on the same tier, but someone like Fears may not fall to 8 given special interest at 5.
So if the teams picking after 5 at 6, 7, 8 want Fears, they can't afford to sit around and wait for him to fall into their laps because "all things equal". But we shouldn't get Ace confused with 4-8. I think there is separation between Ace and that cluster, thus an even higher premium charge to get to 3 for your potential #1 scorer.
That's definitely not VJ, Kon, and probably not Tre Johnson or Jaku.
Hornets would already know how the Nets feel about these prospects. Jeff worked with them so I'm assuming transparency and honest appraisal.

Assuming the Tiers are
No chance - Flagg and Harper
top 5 chance- Ace, VJ, Tre, Kon, Fears
Then that leaves one of these guys left at 8th. Malauch or Jaku.
Are you happy moving down to 8 if those two are on board?

Yes, and Jaku is a no-brainer for me given the choice.

Yeah I like Jaku but I am not super thrilled about passing on Tre Johnson, VJ or Ace for him. Just so we can add a pick in the 20s- which to me is a crapshoot to matter.

I'm not thrilled about that perk either which is why I only drop to 8 if I'm adding Cam Johnson for a small fee. I'm on the same page with Hornets fans who want to add a player if we trade back.

Everyone will need to take a paycut as the TV deals are likely to be less.
Which honestly they probably should, they're getting obscene amounts of money, trade some of that for your health and well being

Shorten the season. Get rid of the all-star game. Put more emphasis on the mid season tournament and basically use it as a replacement for the all-star game.
