I don't see the Markus Howard stuff at all and think that's a lazy comparison. Howard was a better distance shooter, but he was a 5'11 (in shoes), 170 lb shooting guard through and through. Zero play-making/passing chops. Sears can effectively operate as a pick & roll handler, and he's beefier (185). He's an actual point.

It's just a summer league invite. He might not even see the floor in Vegas for all we know.

Sears has same height and weight as TJ McConnell. But lengthier wingspan and better 3point shot. If TJ can stay in an NBA roster, so can he. Just have to be smart about it and try to show similar game intangibles.

McConnell measured two inches taller without shoes at the combine.

McConnell - 6'0.5"
Sears - 5'10.25”

Signing Sears doesn’t make any sense when you had a guy like Proctor right there with the pick.

They probably felt like they had to make it a priority to protect their butts by taking a 7 footer who can shoot the 3, when they lose Brook and or Bobby.

I hate these "without shoes" measurements. Last time I checked he's going to be wearing shoes on the basketball court. What did he measure WITH shoes on should be the question.

Some guys don't always get measured with shoes on at the combine. Just add 2 inches to their heigh to adjust for their shoe lift. McConnell is probably 6'2.5 in shoes and sears 6'0 and Alabama just rounded it up to 6'1.

Makes it near impossible to cheat the measurements and puts everyone on the same playing field.

BOGO and Sears should be fun for summer league. Hopefully a couple other undrafted guys will get added, maybe that French guy we traded the other French guy for?

Both are listed at 6'1 at basketball sites. If these are the measurements without shoes, Sears' no is probably rounded up and TJ's rounded down. But the argument doesn't change. The same career pathway if he wants to see floor time.

Then he's Little Isaiah Thomas after the injury. Too slow to be a playmaker in the NBA.

Or basketball sites got unvetted information sent from schools that fudged the numbers or the sites guessed based on old information. The combine is actual height at the time of the draft and there is a 2 inch difference you can't ignore. It's not the be all end all but two inches at that height matters.

Extreme hyperbole aside (IT was 5'8 barefoot), all these small dudes of course have an uphill battle to ever cracking a modern NBA rotation. Sears at least shares some common traits with dudes that broke through as the exceptions (FVV, Kemba, Brunson). It's 90% more likely that he's just Carsen Edwards, but whatever. It's just a two-way and he's a skilled dude that knows how to play.
