What an awful look for ownership.

Yep. New ownership is a **** idiot and has a personal vendetta with Masai.

Go look at how horribly the Jays and Leags have operated. Raptors were insulated from that with Masai for the last 12 years.

Now we’re gonna be ran like **** again.

Probably looked at Bobby as the gm and said they can save money by removing masai as overhead, if they stick with Bobby moving forward this isn't even a real change

Well other than Masai set the culture of the entire org
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Were you insulated from that with Masai?

Where has he done a good job the last 5 years?

He had Toronto as a treadmill team before that until Pop handed him Kawhi out of spite to Kawhi and the Lakers where he wanted to go

5 years ago we were a contending team going to 7 games with Boston lol.

Since then it’s been a rebuild, an overachieving team, then rebuilding.

Rebuilds don’t happen overnight.

And yeah, SUCH a treadmill. Winning 50+ games every year with ECF appearances

Now that I think about it, they just did the same with the Leafs. Dropped Shanahan and said they didn't need a president, just a GM. The new CEO, Pelley, says he will be the overseer of all the MLSE teams.

2 years too late, he mishandled the Siakam and OG situation and even after mishandling it, the return for OG was disgraceful followed by absurd contract handed to Quickly.
Paid a pick lightly protected that cost them an intentional tank, which later backfired after dropping down and losing the pick anyway.
He followed an amazing streak of good decisions with absurd streak of horrible decisions, given that he was nearing the end of his contract, it is better to let him go now.
Too bad it was after the draft...

Danny Ainge has a similar track record the past few years. Are we ready to fire him? I don't understand why you wouldn't let this team have a 2-3 year runway and see what happens. If they are awful this year and underachieve than maybe have the conversation.

His record is still elite. I have a feeling the new Lakers owner is going to go after him hard...

So if Masai is out, who is in? Thibs is available if he wants to move to the front office, like Brad Stevens.

Some think it is, some think it's not.

Raptors have had a long history of terrible FOs and Masai turned us into perennial 50+ game winner and a title.

Sure the last few seasons have been rough, but he's started accumulating assets again. He's also shown he's not shy about making the big move when it needs to be made.

The odds of someone coming in and being better than him are low.

Has he really been doing that great of a job? All I've seen is the Raps making deals for other teams un-needed but highly movable talent. When you have a roster with Ingram and Barrett, you can't tell me Masai wasn't just swinging at the fence. So what's the deal anyway? Is he just losing his touch? Or do Raps fans see it differently and he was doing a good job? incompetent ownership? Is this the core he wanted to build? Was this team just a collection of assets to be moved again and ownership got tired of waiting for success? Or has all of Masai's success been lightning in a bottle?

I guess I'm asking more than I am contributing to this thread lol, but I've seen regime changes aplenty and there usually is a good reason for it. So maybe it's not all doom and gloom like some of you think. Lets see who they hire.

Nobody, likely. Bobby Webster handled the draft process this week and those were his picks. They likely just remove the title that Masai had from the FO and keep it as is.

Now that I think about it, maybe they waited til now so he can't take intel on their draft to his next spot? (shrugs)

That definitely helped the Hawks in their Pelicans trade. :)

long-time coming tbh. He's been pretty fraudulent outside of a couple of good drafts in a decade plus as GM and getting lucky because the Raptors were one of, if not the only, landing spot outside of the Western Conference that also had a package the Spurs would accept in the Kawhi trade. There's no chance they let him handle the draft picks btw. They probably had given him a chance to get out from the mess he created before the draft and when nothing happened they moved on and he wasn't in charge on draft night.

Timing very odd but he’s been living off the Kawhi move for years now

Danny Ainge basically was bumped upstairs by the Celtics for Brad Stevens (smart move) because he couldn't get the Tatum team over the finish line.

Danny and now his son have a sweet thing going with the Jazz and it has more to do with relationships and him being buddies with the new owner in Utah. The whole Utah Mormon thing too.
