This is not looking good. We got a nepo baby (Rogers) at the top. Our biggest strength is drafting and now that guy is gone (Webster is a cap guy). I am not optimistic about the future.

What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.

Lots of feelings here. One one hand, I just really appreciated Masai's leadership and I get the feeling everyone in the organization is better for it. However, I am more worried about how Rogers runs this team moving forward. I really do not believe Kelly knows how to run a successful NBA team - the NBA is a lot more about connections than say the NHL or MLB.

Dman it, i was exited for next year, but now everything is in question and this team might fall apart. I would not be surprised if we suddenly have a firesale or so.

lol what does this even mean? Is he taking them with him or are we keeping them here?

it means he knew he was going to be out so he was trying to get his guys signed long term. but a new president will probably get rid of them anyway to bring in his guys.

Not a fan of the move; I think it will be hard to replace Masai's stability and impact, it'll be interesting to see where this all goes

Okay my Masai-type list might actually be cooked again lol.

If Bobby has to answer to someone new above him, in theory it doesn't matter that his/Dan's/Masai's types in the draft are probably all in sync.

Feels like Bobby has been running things for a little while now based on this statement.

Yeah they're going to bring on a new president but not allow him to have his own GM?

Whats the point of firing Masai only to not promote Bobby and still search for a new President? Is Ed going to give this position away to one of his friends?

Terrible move

Masai made the Raptors legit. You see these new draftees talking about Toronto as a winning team? That's masai.

Oh well, out of our control I guess..

Do you mean players that are already here once they know him? Because Masai's presence hasn't helped with free agency at all. That is no knock on him, I don't think anyone they can hire for that role will bring in top tier FAs, unless they can change the weather lol.

Seeing Rogers trying to frame this as Keith Pelley's "decision" is honestly hilarious.

That's not how company's of that size work, especially when led by people like Ed.

Based on experience, I'm fairly certain it went like this:

Ed: The economy is tough and we never should've agreed to pay Masai all that money in the first place. This is why I hired you.

Keith: yes boss

End of story. A decision like this doesn't happen at the Keith level.

the timing is bad, should have been earlier if this was the plan. But he was being paid as a top level GM, but hadn't been performing that way. So this next contract was always a likely break up. The idea of Masai taking less, seems unlikely, as does the idea of continuing to pay him as a top performing GM. If you can tell which way the wind is blowing without the weather man telling you, you would have anticipated this was happening this year, despite the fact that that captured imbedded propagandist beat guys only report what the org wants.
