Ayton. Compared to Williams, he's basically an iron man when it comes to health

Someone on a podcast said it best. You need players who are playing, it could be the difference between the 4th seed in the West to a play-in spot potentially. The west is wide open (besides maybe OKC), so Suns need guys who are durable and are able to play all 82 games. That is not Mark Williams... for now

Im pretty happy with our moves so far but we won't be in the mix for the 4th seed even if Williams plays all 82 lol let's be honest

I honestly don't care what our record is as long as we are a fun team to watch that actually gives effort.
SHAZAM!
Suns traded Mikal Bridges, Cam Johnson, Jae Crowder and 4 1st round picks and a swap so some Vegas Bookies would like us.

Yeah sorry, I was not insinuating the Suns would be a top 4 seed. I don't think Suns will be a bottom 4 team either though.
Jazz and Pelicans are still bottom 2. I'm not so certain how the Grizzlies will look without Bane. Kings are not improving IMO. I think Lakers are not as good as their record indicates. They are still looking for a big. I think the West will be completely wide open, besides probably OKC and Rockets being the top 2.

If our medical team can turn him into a healthy dude, this would be crazy for us.
Let's hope for the best rn.

lets face it if we can get him healthy the Suns could flip him for something good. If we cant get him healthy we can let him walk. In the end there isnt a lot of downside here. As far as Maluach goes he is an outstanding possibility for the future and was clearly the best player on the board but he still a chance. on average they say it takes 4 to 5 years for a center to reach their potential. That is what Mark does is it gives us the ability to let Maluach develop.

The downside is obviously we would've given up 2 FRP's to let him walk.

Losing first round draft capital for nothing is never a good thing, even if they are late FRPs

I love the draft and it is getting less sure but the average career of a first round pick is or was 4 years (I haven’t seen this number since the early 2000s). I am not saying we can write off the picks but Maluach isn’t ready to start this year. Mark Williams makes sense if we are trying to a complete rebuild.

I really like the players we picked up in this draft. I'm not expecting Maluach to be ready to start right away, so having someone with more experience in that spot makes sense.
That said, I have concerns about the Williams trade. Not only did we not need to make that move, but it also creates potential redundancy between Williams and Maluach. If Williams were in his early 30s with a couple of solid years left, the timing would be perfect. He'll essentially be a great placeholder until Maluach was ready for significant minutes.
But Williams doesn't turn 24 until December, so he's arguably just entering his prime. That means his early prime years will overlap with the time Maluach is expected to grow into a larger role. The argument I sort of understood is that Williams is injury prone so Maluach is probably going to get good minutes anyway which is a good thing. But then you're kind of expecting Williams to continue to be injury prone in which case we traded 2 FRP's for an injury prone C up for an extension.
My view is that we just shouldn't have made the Williams trade. I think Nick Richards is a better fit for this specific role I envision alongside Maluach. He's a solid placeholder who is affordable, relatively healthy, and easier to retain over the long term. Oh and we also have those 4 second round picks (3 net) back in the coffers as well as the 2029 FRP. And we would still have Fleming. Williams on the other hand is an expensive, injury prone and probably too good of a C to have next to your C of the future.

Agreed also Williams is an unrestricted free agent after next season so we will need to realistically offer him anywhere from 10-15M per season if we want to keep him and there's no telling if we would have been able to offload Beal to get under the 2nd apron.
We may risk losing Williams for nothing if some other team offers him a contract we aren't comfortable with and losing 2 first round picks for a one year rental of Mark Williams wouldn't have been worth it.

Mark Williams is a RFA after next season.

Re: Mark Williams thread
Curious to see if they try to lock him up on a reasonable contract this summer. Might be worth it if he's open to a below market rate given his injury history.
If not and he has a good 1st half of the season I'd look to move him at the deadline and if he's healthy and good I'd bet he fetches more than they traded away.
Suns are going to actually have to hit on some moves like this with their limited resources so I don't mind the gamble. But it's the Suns so that's a scary proposition given like all their history.
As far as his fit with Maluach one thing to note is Williams is probably a 24-30 min guy especially if the Suns want to play fast. Lots of minutes available for Maluach. I'd love 48 mins of constantly having a giant in the middle.

I think it's too much of a risk to try and get a deal done early, unless we can get health related clauses into his contract.
