Why would Portland take 3 years of bad money for what may very likely be 2 2nd rounders?

The team has liked Vanderbilt in the past and he actually fits into what they're doing right now.

Lakers also liked him in the past, but he has trouble staying on the court and his pay has gone up since then. No reason to trade for a guy you yourself called “bad money” without better incentive.

Lakers aren't trading Rui or a 1st for Ayton.

The deal is Vanderbilt/Vincent/Kleber with Knecht and/or a swap as the sweetner.

Blazer fans here should stop trying to extract extra value on an Ayton-->Lakers deal. Ayton's salary is the kind of roadblock that kills value and bollixes most ideas

Lakers need depth and the shouldn't substantially harm it to add a player like Ayton

about the only deal that makes any sense, to me at least, is

Ayton + Reath/or Rupert for DFS + Kleber + Vincent. A straight up exchange of expiring contracts that I believe send out a tiche more Laker salary than they take back. No picks or future considerations. I'm assuming the Lakers would rather move DFS than Rui
