No one knew Barnes would be this good so no one was looking to build around Barnes. Go look at draft day thread most of the people here had meltdowns cause we passed on Suggs.

Anyways my point still stands. You gotta give FVV, OG and PS some chances considering the success they had early on (Chip in '19, great season '20). It didn't work out unfortunately.

What are your thoughts about our current core group? They aren't that young and are perennial losers... Should we start a rebuild now? They haven't even show anything close to the success we had with old core at the same stage of their careers.

I don't give Siakam, OG and FVV any chances in 2021. Because in 2019 and 2020 they were kinda... hanger ons..Lowry was always the motor and made everyone better around him + Gasol and Ibaka as Vets. Fred was never a good leader, siakam was invisible during the 2020 playoffs, and og played no role in 2019.

What core ? We don't have a effn core right now. 1 or 2 interesting pieces....

Siakam OG and FVV with no bench and a rookie Barnes won 48 games. It was not crazy to think there was some growth there to level up a bit.

They also won 60 **** games in 2020 with no Kawhi as 3 of the most important pieces + Lowry.

The team fell apart due to no bench. No fault to them really. And yes, that was a stain on Masai a bit to not get some bench help.

"Siakam OG and FVV with no bench and a rookie Barnes won 48 games. It was not crazy to think there was some growth there to level up a bit" it was crazy to think, lots of ppl on this board saw it coming.

It’s pretty scary when you think about what has happened with the Jays. This has been going on for a decade.

10 years is a long time lol

The Jays are in a better position than the Raptors and have actual clear examples of improvement. Farm system is up. Player development is up. They are in playoff position despite Santander/Gimenez/Scherzer providing nothing to date/being injured, on top of Varsho getting hurt at a point when he was the team's best player.

Can you point to even a single thing the Raptors have improved on over the past 3 years?

Scary to think people actually about the Jays. The Jays are largely built because of an ever-increasing payroll in a cap-less system. Their payroll has gone 5x since 2020. They have had unlimited resources to upgrade their development, scouting and an on-field product (not including renovations here because it's largely irrelevant). They were afforded a full tear-down and rebuild and their tear-down was terrible in terms of asset management. The farm system ranked bottom 3rd (23-26 in most publications at the start of the year). While the farm has performed better this year, and they've had contributions from some of their younger guys, it took 10 years. The only other consistent performer from their "draft" was Bo, a player they were forced to take and then they fired that scout.

You give these resources to an average Front Office, and they'd be more successful. You give these resources to a competent FO, and they'd be a perennial WS contender. Jays have largely disappointed during the Shatkins era.

With that said, Basketball and Baseball are completely differently and are not comparable in terms of how you should build a team. Raptors are actually not all that far away. Obviously the biggest issue is lack of a superstar, but when have the Raptors had the ability to acquire one? The last time they did, they got one and who a chip. Until then, you accumulate asset and wait for someone to become available. Or tank year after year, and hope for the ping pong balls to fall in your favour.

IMO, this was 100% money related. Otherwise, Masai, Bobby and Tolzman would all be out on their asses. They wouldn't extend the GM and assistant GM if they were unhappy about the basketball decisions.

Any number of reasons. Could want a new challenge, money, etc. I’ve heard he likes being a big fish in a small pond, but he might welcome the opportunity to move to a bigger pond that doesn’t come with the pressure of markets like LA and New York. The whole point is that we should absolutely be trying to pry him away if we’re a serious organization.

Presti is not coming here. This isn’t like some free agency situation where teams have carved out cap space. If Presti were on the market everyone gets to bid and we’re not competing with the likes of Lakers (who just got sold to guy worth $10b) or other major market teams.

If he's under contract and by some miracle we convinced him to come here, the compensation would also be ridiculous. I think we are talking at least 2 FRP's, likely 3. Which then makes you ask the question why would he come here still with this roster and losing that many draft assets lol

If they plan to keep the Bobby and the other executives maybe they bring someone internal in as President. I'd be fine if they just name Larry Tannenbaum President.

Scary times for Toronto. Do not want to go back to the BC days.

I've always wanted to see Masai win another chip for Toronto and give him his moment back. Sure you can question decisions over past few years, but do you really trust another executive in this league? Let's hope Bobby is here to stay.

Agree with most posts
MLSE is about money and NBA/Raptors are big money They are already looking for a new president and have extended Bobby and Dan T shows stability and wanting to invest and build
Perhaps politics have a big play here it happens
Maybe Masai took his eyes off the ball for several years maybe ownership expected him to execute on bringing in a star
Ultimately Masai did great things for the city and the Raptors I will be forever grateful he took on the challenge
Rogers spends money and I hope the next person brings more success also
Happy to see they extended the current leadership team

This is such limited thinking. No reason to not sniff around Presti to see if we can pry him from the Thunder. The worst that can happen is he says no but we’ve planted a seed for when he becomes available. It’s not like we couldn’t also be interviewing other candidates

Playoffs in baseball are a total crapshoot and not something Ed has any control of so I can’t even begin to understand your point here.

It’s undeniable the ownership situation for the Jays is the best it has been in 30 years.

Randle, go back to spouting your rogers propaganda on the jays board. Allow us to mourn in peace.

He's completely wrong, ownership could've kept AA who's went on to build up 2 teams since he's left the Jays - ATL + Dodgers and in the meanwhile we haven't won a playoff series with a top 7 payrolly in all of baseball,

He's out the lunch, the Jays r lucky this yr they have been getting some great szns from the bottom of the line-up & the rest of our division sucks
They get an apple for the renovations of the Skydome but nothing Rogers does is good, it's noteven called the Skydome anymore

Okay?

It also isn't a crazy stance to take that a team with a starting lineup with guys aged 20 (who won ROTY), 23, 24, 27, and 27 would have the opportunity to improve upon 48 wins.

Sure, in hindsight we know how it turned out, but literally any team who had a young team like we had would not be blowing it up.
What an absolute failure and disaster this franchise is, ran by one of the most incompetent front offices in the league.
