Because he's run the team horribly for about 5 years now and would have been fired by any organization for that if 2019 had never happened.

But 2019 did happen. And the five or six years before it where a nothing organization became a perennial winner after drafting a non-shooting SG and acquiring a malcontent that was on his way out of the league before Masai gave him a reality check.

To diminish what Masai accomplished here is ludicrous and incredibly shortsighted.

Who is diminishing what he accomplished? I've already stated his name should be in the rafters for 2019.

But that was 2019 and this is now and 6 years have elapsed since then of some pretty poor management with this team. Eventually the free pass runs out and the rent comes due.

The season after they had the second best record in the league and made the second round and lost by one shot in game 7 to the Celtics. That year was as exciting to watch.

Year after they were decimated by COVID and drafted Barnes.

Season after they made the playoffs with a young core and Barnes winning ROY and playoffs ended with a big injury to Barnes who wasn’t the same after he came back.

Season after we had personality clashes and team didn’t progress.

Season after they traded away the clashing personalities and started a rebuild.

Again, it’s very easy to look at how things progressed and understand why things happened the way they did. That was not management incompetence.

I said it before but trying to make Siakam, Barnes, OG and FVV work isn’t failure.

I sensed some real frustration in those questions. This is most certainly not a popular decision.

He's okay, not considered top tier but he's not clueless either. He's just okay.

Jury is out on him, he's been in place only two years. Shanahan hired him, who is now gone.

He's still relatively new to Toronto but he flamed out in Calgary, where one of his last decisions was a horrible trade that was that catalyst of the Florida Panthers dynasty-in-the-making by sending Tkachuk there.

i dont think the last part is fair, he got a player coming off a 115 point season and a top for dman for a player that openly said he didnt wanna return. nobody could predict huberdeau to **** the bed after lol.

Agreed, but sports is a results-based business and results are what make a GM great or not. The result is that the Tkachuk trade is one of the most lopsided in recent years regardless of how it looked at the time.

Man that was terrible press conf. I think he was thinking it would go like Shannon press conf. where fans/media were clamouring for change. And on this front - Raps, most fans and media hadn't turned on Masai, so he wasn't expecting the push back or some of those questions.
