I wish we could all scoff and laugh at that.

Sadly it’s likelier than not. Racism is trending if you haven’t noticed. And Ed’s been an obvious one forever.

Old white man who nobody likes getting rid of the Black guy we all champion.

Looks like a duck, quakes like a duck…

It’s weird that some people don’t believe racism motivates decisions in the workplace. I mean, there was that big article about Ed Rogers’ horrible treatment of Masai a few years back.

People think racists are going to come out and say, “we don’t want that n-word around here anymore!” Like, that’s not how racism in the workplace works. If it was that overt then it would never fly and it wouldn’t be as insidious as it is.

Disliking someone who is a different colour doesn’t make you a racist.

Common sense suggests you can like one person of different colour and dislike another lol

And if he was a true racist you think he would give $500M away to a black? Lol

This place is really suffering from mental illness these days everything is victimhood and every post is about “ MAGA”

Totally unhinged.

Yeah he was likely already approached to run the Seatle NBA franchise...

Tannebaum and Bell's former CEO were the only reason Masai lasted this long.

And recently fired 2 other VPs (Leafs/Soccer). It's a new structure where Keith is the only guy at the table.

Can't help but notice the same posters who were on certain sides of the fence on other non-basketball topics over the years that are talking about how we shouldn't mention it being about race, hmmm

Its because under the previous owners Leiweke made sure to seperate owner input from basketball executives.

This new group wants a yes man. So we are kind of headed back to what Colangelo and the lack of autonomy his predecessors dealt with.

Pelley is the same way a former rogers exec

Interestingly...Toronto Life recently released an interview with Tim Leiweke who's group is back in Ontario but looking at redeveloping Copps Coliseum in Hamilton...

https://torontolife.com/city/former-mlse-boss-tim-leiweke-on-turning-hamilton-into-mini-toronto/

Some interesting excerpts:

Toronto Life: I find it odd that an entrepreneur like yourself supported the Rogers takeover of MLSE. You don’t see it as a monopoly?

Tim: No. When I was CEO, I had the distinct privilege of keeping co-owners Rogers and Bell from beating each other up. I also got along with Larry Tanenbaum, even though I probably drove him crazy with all the changes I wanted. In the process, I forged a good relationship with Edward Rogers. He’s a great owner, and he is of, for and by Toronto. And now, with the Blue Jays, Leafs, Raptors and TFC together as one entity, that will serve Toronto sports fans in a unique way. MLSE now has so many resources to invest in those teams, all privately.

Toronto Life: And what about Trump and his tariffs? Has he affected your bottom line?

Tim: He has. The good news in Hamilton is that 95 per cent of our project was bought before tariffs hit. I do think there’s a method to his madness, and this will all pass at some point. But I stay out of politics, and I won’t tell you who I voted for.

Toronto Life: OVG is loud and proud about DEI. Are you facing pressure from your peers—and even Washington—to axe your programs?

Tim: Look, there are things about the Trump administration that I support. I agree with it on borders: we have to figure out a long-term immigration policy. We also need to think about drugs flowing into the States. He’s doing things that have to be done, and I get that. He’ll get to the right place on tariffs eventually. But there are other things he does that I don’t agree with, like his position on the environment. I happen to think the earth is on fire. Diversity is also important to me, and I don’t see it as a political issue. I have 70,000 employees, and 125 million customers go through my facilities every year. I want all of them to feel like OVG is a mirror image of them.

Tim sounds like Tim is cut from the same cloth as Ed Rogers......

That's NOT good. He just road the coat tails of Masai and has no eye for drafting talent.

I got the feeling from listening to Pelley that MLSE didn't want to wait until Masai's contract ran out because he'd become a media distraction for the team in a contract year.

There’s not going to be a new guy. I don’t think they removed Masai from the position, I think they’ve removed the position itself. Seems like Pelley will fill that void for both Leafs and Raps.

Let’s just bring in Rich Paul. He may be a sleazeball but he’s our sleazeball.

Paul will be expensive, but that would be a power player for sure.

A guy who could make sense is Jelani Floyd from Wasserman Group. He is a former collegiate player, and now an agent for several years and an attorney. He is a really well-spoken guy and a bright mind.

Seriously though. I think hiring an agent is another way to go, especially when it comes to signing free agents

Guys, let's table this before it goes anywhere less pleasant, shall we? Let's still to talking about the Masai decision and the other management team members, etc.

I think we have seen the impact of Rob Pelinka, Leon Rose and those guys can make deals happen. We don't need a guy who is supporting Canadian basketball or European basketball to be the next president. We need a backroom dealmaker to stay relevant.

Bob Myers is another example of agents who have had success. I like that model for a team like ours who have historically struggled signing free agents.
