A lot of money for a backup Center, This has to mean Randle or Gobert is gone?

Naz Reid is not a Center. He is honestly better off playing Small-Forward than Center, he functionally plays like a big wing. This will definitely have zero impact on Rudy Gobert, starting Naz Reid at Center would be a disaster.
For Julius Randle, I think he probably gets resigned, but this is good insurance in case that does not happen.

That's what I was thinking. I bet it will be Randle. They have Naz and Mcdaniels locked up for a long time. They can probably do a sign and trade with Randle.Karmaloop wrote:Wow. So Randle or Gobert leaving?

I agree with this more so
Kids played football, drove cars, went to school, celebrated life; while soldiers, heroes, their brothers struggled to find their way home from war; and young boys watched and grew wiser in their dreams.

Think it’s hard to justify the length and money without him starting. Who was they bidding against at this price ??

Potentially Detroit (if they renounced free-agents) or Brooklyn. Also other options in sign-and-trades, which Minnesota would probably have facilitated out of good faith. Alternatively, if he opted in, there is a world where he gets a bag in 2026.
I'm not crazy about it, but Minnesota is going the continuity path, it feels like.

$25M per year is fantastic for the Wolves, and Reid gets the bag. Congrats to both.

Tying up over 15% of the cap on a backup is wild.

Maybe spend that money on a starting PG who can play more than 25 mpg.

Re: Shams: Naz Reid 5/125
I get it, being it's a league-wide board we're on, but it's very obvious there is a gap in understanding of who Naz Reid is and what he means to the Minnesota franchise.
It's easy to look from afar and think it's a lot of money for a bench player.....and maybe it is. But
The biggest thing to understand is that he is a cult hero in Minnesota. He is more of a fan favorite in this market than Anthony Edwards.
When people with the organization talk about core building blocks for the future, it is Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid. They put their money where their mouths are too. Remember Jaden was the guy the Minnesota front office refused to include in the Rudy Gobert trade, even though he hadn't even been a full-time starter to that point. And they ended up signing him to a 5/131 deal.

Why? Are teams required to build their rosters the same way? Just because Boston invested $60 million in its PG rotation last year doesn't mean everyone else needs to follow suit.

Re: Shams: Naz Reid 5/125
I don’t think the 25 per is egregious. Five years seems like a lot, though. I get that the percentage of cap will decline assuming the deal is fairly flat, but still seems lengthy.
Good for Naz, though. Wanted to stay, got to stay.

How were they going to do that with their Apron issues and lack of picks?
Here is a thought: Minnesota is signing Naz to this deal in part because he will be tradeable and can match with more players due to his higher salary.
