yeah, that was my gut reaction too. but i think this is one of those adjustment moments where the contracts look bigger than they should when really it's just inflation.

After giving it some thought I pretty much agree.

He's a 27 minute per game guy though.

13% of cap the first year. Yeah, that's not bad. Bobby isn't as good as Naz though. Naz is at least a half tier if not full tier higher imo.

Who were they bidding against (other than themselves?)...Brooklyn was going to drop that much loot on Naz?

Yep. Bid against themselves. Only thing I can think of is Naz was an RFA. Maybe his agent said, “pay him or he opts in and announces he plans to test free agency no matter what.” Basically pay me or I’ll walk in a year and I’ll crush my trade value beforehand.

I guess Bobby could do the same. But the Bucks could just use his salary and Pat’s as expirings for a longer contract someone wants off of.

The "only Brooklyn has cap space" angle is such a false facade when using it to give players as little as humanly possible in a league where time and time again players are willing to bet big on themselves in hopes of getting what they want.

You can start negotiating with external free agents on Monday, June 30th at 5pm, and a lot of “agreed upon in principle” language will be thrown out then.

Then at 11:01am on July 6th teams can actually start signing the players.

Negotiations with your own free agents were allowed once the finals were over.

Then why are all these tweeters taking about stuff starting tomorrow night?

I'm sure many other teams were going to pay this. It's a fair price based on today's economics.

I had pegged Naz as a 20-25m/year contract. And I personally think he’s worth it and should be starting.

Cleveland fans think this means Garland is gone.

This is just salary related. Ball is an expiring (club option) and Okoro has two years left. They also shed a little over 1M for this year.

Weird he didn't go to free agency and sign with Detroit. I guess i should applaud his loyalty?

Yeah this is more about Ty Jerome than Garland. It'll be Craig Porter playing backup PG though. I can't see Ball holding up physically.

I wonder if the Bulls would move Okoro? When they wouldn't deal Ball for a 1st, it was because they were getting saddled with bad contracts in those deals.

Still, that’s a lot of money for a backup.

A lot of money for a backup on a team with a max contract starter, that just used the 16th pick and a 2nd round pick on centers, despite those 2 centers averaging just 8 ppg combined last year.

I always wanted to see what Giannis would look like next to a guard like Lonzo

It would lead to some fun highlights.

As for Lonzo, specifically, I can’t imagine a bigger injury risk in the history of the league, than giving him any guaranteed money beyond the minimum.
