Creating “offense,” while guards are dependent on the defense that front court players produce.

(If we are speaking in generalities.)

I think that’s Reggie’s point

It's easy to look from afar and think it's a lot of money for a bench player.....and maybe it is. But

The biggest thing to understand is that he is a cult hero in Minnesota. He is more of a fan favorite in this market than Anthony Edwards.

When people with the organization talk about core building blocks for the future, it is Anthony Edwards, Jaden McDaniels, and Naz Reid. They put their money where their mouths are too. Remember Jaden was the guy the Minnesota front office refused to include in the Rudy Gobert trade, even though he hadn't even been a full-time starter to that point. And they ended up signing him to a 5/131 deal.

I don't necessarily think it's an issue with the player or the money, but rather the roster composition. Spending nearly $91M on 3 bigs isn't exactly smart when it comes roster construction. It seems like the writing is on the wall that either Julius Randle or Rudy Gobert's days in Minnesota are numbered. My guess is Randle, but they did just draft two centers.

Rookie Centers are rarely ready in their first season though.

Wolves fans may disagree, but I see gobert being traded. Id imagine they want another center in return, but probably a cheaper one.

Really like something involved reaves + contracts. Flipping the contracts + dillingham for a center.
He might eventually get moved but id be really surprised if it's this year. Those 2 are absolute project's. 1 is probably 2 years away from being a rotation guy. The other is probably 2 years away from being 2 years away.

Wouldn't a Reaves deal just create the same problem next offseason when you have to sign him to a new deal (lets say 30m) and wonder where the money is coming from if you've also acquired a starting caliber center and that contract?

Solid signing. Team maintaining and keeping its players used to be not a Minny thing. People need to realize that.

Let’s help the world understand Naz and his importance. Here are some simple examples.

For your wrestling fans NAZ had a banner in the background of the main event night one of wrestlemania. That’s how big deal he is. Rewatch it and fast forward to when Punk and company left the ring and fought in the crowd. We lol so hard as it was on screen for so long.

At concerts, between bands we chant Naz Reid.

We have the wizard of Naz doing pics for kids at target center. I actually may have one of a friend and his kids with the wizard , if I need to share it.

Culture change here. People gotta step back and be thankful their franchises have not been the dog **** that ours have been.
KG hasn’t been allowed back. Seriously. Let’s see KG actually allowed back now.
Next year will be fun.

Not a rant. But all the other teams , beware , cuz we are finally showing up to be a consistent team now. Doing what winning teams do. It’s about time. Right?? I actually thought I would be dead before this actually happens.

I do think a playmaker that can get more offense for Rudy is a need for Minnesota.

I'm thinking maybe they move Randle for one. Naz is ready to start.

I wasnt thinking the center would necessarily be making huge money. Looking at guys like jval, gafford, okongwu (in that 10-20 range). So the core would be

Ant - max
Mcdaniels 25
Naz 25
Reaves 30
Randle resigns around 25?
Center making 10-20
Ddv 12

If that's what he's expecting, I think he would be disappointed. No one has the capspace to give that except Brooklyn and they won't do it. If he is looking for salary in that range, I expect the deal will be for 3 years, not 5 (and I still believe the AAV is too high - $25mm is what he should get and he doesn't have a lot of options here). If he was willing to accept takes 5/130, I could see them offering the full-five years. Yes, he's a free agent, but he's never on the all-Defensive teams nor all-NBA nor All-star. Paying him that number listed would cripple the Pacers.

When the Wolves initially traded for Rudy Gobert it was hard to envision Naz’s role since he was more of a center. Since then he’s adjusted his role and body and has become more and more of a PF than a center. At this point Naz playing center is kinda like DDV playing PG. you can do it in a bind but you’d prefer someone who is more fitting of that position.

Backup center was quietly a massive need for Minnesota last season.
Rest in peace Mamba. There'll never be another Kobe.
