You can’t evaluate this trade as though Lonzo is going to be a regular player.

I think it definitely means at least one of Jerome or Merrill are gone. Maybe both.
That was always the case. I think Merrill is gone. The Cavs targeted Proctor in the 2nd round to play immediately. I actually think retaining Jerome is more likely after this deal.
I dont think a contender team would target a 49th pick to be a rotation player right off the bat.

Don't trust Ball's health but there is a chance you get a 2022 Otto Porter, a key contributor to a champion team and then he basically never played again. I'm surprised they didn't just find a team with capspace to take Okoro since they have to be desperate for salary relief.

No one targets the 49th pick to be in the rotation right of the bat. Occasionally they get there unexpectedly.

They tried to do the later. Teams were trying to squeeze them.

I think both is the most likely outcome at this point.

I should have clarified that they drafted Proctor with the intention of him filling a roster spot. He is a shooting guard who shoots the three exceptionally well, which is why I think Cleveland is assuming Merrill won’t be back. The Cavs also took Tyson in the first round last year, and he’s a shooting guard too. My guess is they are planning to replace Merrill’s minutes with a combination of Tyson and Proctor.

I just don't like the risk/reward from Cleveland side. Their roster was already good enough to make it past the East so yeah if Lonzo stays healthy it's a very good fit/upgrade but the odds are not great at all.

Okoro is bad, losing his minutes for nothing is pretty immaterialDadouv47 wrote:I just don't like the risk/reward from Cleveland side. Their roster was already good enough to make it past the East so yeah if Lonzo stays healthy it's a very good fit/upgrade but the odds are not great at all.

There is no chance Ball becomes a regular rotation player for Cleveland. The question is whether the Cavs can manage his regular season workload in a way that allows him to contribute 10–15 minutes per game in the playoffs. I don’t think that’s unreasonable. I believe the Cavs will challenge Tyson and Porter to take on bigger roles in 2026, so anything they get from Ball in the regular season would be a bonus.

Re: Shams: Okoro for Ball
Does the acquisition of Okoro indicate the Bulls are trading Coby White?

Okoro is a terrible backup SF and Coby is their starting SG. I mean if acquiring Okoro expedites trading Coby then that means the Bulls are finally embracing the tank.

Re: Shams: Okoro for Ball
This does help the Bulls position balance, (they had an extra guard, especially if they resign Jones) but the value looks poor. They could have just not extended Ball, then gotten paid for taking a contract like Okoro rather than extending Ball for 1 year then trading him for 2 years of Okoro.
Okoro's similar to Pat Williams in that he was drafted high but only has the skill level of a limited role player. He's healthier than Williams (or Ball obviously) and his contract isn't as bad but this is the sort of small loss that below-average FO's like Chicago's keep making.

I'd say if anything it means the opposite as the Bulls thinned out their extra guards making White more necessary.

If true (and the pick was a real 1st) this was almost as dumb as not taking the Pells trade down offer.
