Re: CP3 To Indiana is a match made in heaven
Yeah, agree with the others. CP is too old and methodical to play at their pace if that's the goal. They'd need like a healthy Lonzo or Ben Simmons from 5 years ago (would be a train wreck in the half court). Kasparas Jakucionis would have been interesting if they had kept their pick and moved up a few slots.
Honestly though, I just don't think they'll be able to play that same way. Haliburton's ability to play at that breakneck pace without turning the ball over is incredible. They might want to go the opposite way and try to lean into grinding teams out defensively, and hoping Mathurin can take a leap as a higher usage half court scorer.

They won 3 quarters of that game 7. If they hadn't pooped themselves in the 3rd, they had a title.
Dunno if slow, old CP is a sensible match for how they play, but it couldn't hurt to see if he has the juice to give them 25 mpg to drive them forward in Hali's absence. Small contract, one-year deal like he did with the Spurs... he hasn't seemed to care about team quality, so it would be an interesting experiment, anyway.
They only won that 4th quarter because they were still trying in the last few minutes while the Thunder pulled their starters and were just playing a prevent defense. Mathurin scored the last 4 points of the game and they won the quarter by 1.Thunder we up by 90-68 with 7 minutes to go and at that point I remember thinking to myself, can the Pacers even get to 90???
Point being, it's misleading to act like they "only lost the 3rd". The game was over mid-way through the 4th.
Go Knicks!

Would be the first time he's ever played for a team in the Eastern Conference. Pretty sure the Hornets moved to New Orleans the year before he was drafted.
Haha going back and looking at that, when I was writing for RealGM and starting up my draft coverage, I had Amir Johnson mocked to Detroit at that exact pick. I got something right that year!! Haha.

Re: CP3 To Indiana is a match made in heaven
As **** as the injury to Haliburton is, the Pacers probably have the best backup Point Guard rotation in the league. Nembhard/TJ are more than capable of soaking up the entirety of those minutes and deserve minutes over CP3 at this point.
The real problem for the Pacers is that they need to create enough space to re-sign Turner. They are about 22million away from the tax and Indy historically won't pay it and it wouldnt make sense to start paying it now in what amounts to a lost season without Hali.
iHart, J.Allen, Gobert signed deals ranging between 29-36.7 million. I feel like thats around where Turners range is, which means that the Pacers need to trim 8-15 million in salary. The obvious guy is Obi, who makes 14m, they have Jrace Walker in the wings to fill into his role. There is also Nembhard (18.7), Neismith (11), and TJ (10.2) that could all get moved.
A team like the Hornets would be a good fit for Obi. They could trade Micic for Obi today and free up the entire cap by declining Micic option. They could also trade him for Okogi and create around 8 mil.

Lakers. Its nearly a perfect match with what CP3 wants to do (family/location), and hasn't done yet (Play with LeBron).. plus gets to play with Luka. Slower paced team as well.
Clippers, I doubt it. But never say never there.
May well be Lakers or retire for him.

Would be a good PG off the bench for 20 minutes a game. Paul is a bit washed.

And people continue to overrate CP3 even in old age. It's remarkable and something that will never make sense.

Yup I see a big year for Mathurin, especially heading into a contract year.

Before the Hali injury the owner said we would go into the tax to keep the team together. We haven't been in the tax for a long time. We were for a few contending teams, I' don't remember the years.
Word is around town is they will go into the tax anyway, for Hali's return. As long as Turner's asking price is reasonable.

They lost the third pretty badly, no doubt, but for missing their main guy? Pretty good.

Re: CP3 To Indiana is a match made in heaven
I don't think so. CP3 is slow and Haliburton will miss the entire season. No point.
Mavs make the most sense. Kyrie is projected to play in the 2nd half of the season. They need a floor general to pass to A.D. and Flagg until Irving is back.
He'll probably end up with an L.A. team. He is adamant about being close to home.

Re: CP3 To Indiana is a match made in heaven
CP is done as an impact player. It's amazing he's planning to play another season but why not.
That said, does anybody else think Indy needs to consider a roster shakeup? I know they were close but man, watching them without Halliburton really underlines that none of their other players can create shots when the pressure is on. Their only creator with the ball was TJ.

He's from North Carolina. The Charlotte Hornets should bring him in for a year to help get that franchise headed in the right direction in 2025-26 or 2026-2027.
