Reports say he's seeking $30M+.

He was in the same situation as Coby, that was the max extension the Lakers could offer.

Since Brooklyn should definitely not be a "threat" anymore after the draft, AK just has to show that he can actually kind of do his job. I'm not saying that you just tell Giddey to go get an offer on the open market, which would piss him off. But Giddey can't just get whatever he wants. No reason for more than 30 mil a year (and you could go lower here for sure) or a player option at this point.

I think $20M per year would be the lowest possible #. That said, I think there's a risk that it creates some Lavine-like ill-will. I'd be fine with $25M per year, and think it is a functional floor.

FWLIW, the Score had a guy on yesterday who said that the average salary for a starting NBA PG last year was.....$38M. A young Giddey at even $30 is a good deal compared to that. That said, $30 seems rich for me, something like $25 per is a nice sweet spot.

Yeah, but most of the starting PG's are also their teams' #1 scoring option, so I think the number for Giddey should be less.

Don't disagree I don't want to pay Josh $38M per, but is that really right? Can easily think of a bunch of teams who's lead scorers aren't the PG: LAL, MN, BOS, DEN, HOU, MIL, SAS off the top of my head.

Not ball related but I know I’m not the only one watching Love Island with their girl thinking of Josh Giddey every time they show Nic. Quite a resemblance.

At $20M in Giddey's shoes I would just refuse the offer and seek a non taxpayer MLE (23 teams eligible) of $14M and become a completely unrestricted FA next year and sign anywhere.

So you lose $6M for 1 year, and he can easily get $35M+ per year for multiple years in a true free market. Let's keep in Scottie Barnes makes $46M per year while being older and Brandon Ingram makes $40M while playing 18 games in a season and will be 28. If teams thought these were good deals, they'll love a 20/11/9 guy on $35M. CJ McCollum got $33M in a much lower cap scenario and he's 33.

After just 1 year of the new contract, he's +$15M over a $20M offer from Chicago. Over 4 years, that's $60M.
The $6M he loses by taking a MLE is trivial in the long run.

Even $30M is John Collins, Jerami Grant, Miles Bridges money and borderline insulting. At $25M you're telling him he's worth the same Kuzma.

I think giddey will continue his second half play into this season and his contact will look fine. Not worried about it

I predict the AAV will come in at $31.5M.

Just enough that his agent can say he outperformed expectations.

Read on Twitter

really no reason not to play hardball with him after this first wave of moves. $25m should be the ceiling and we should be driving for $20m as a reasonable price given the Changing Cap Conditions

No deal yet?

IMO Giddey is gonna seek the max. Will settle on a 2Y deal with PO. AK won’t get the deal done.

I’m just glad Giddey hasn’t signed yet.

Shows some negotiation going on

If they can give Zach $40M… $30M for a much younger, much better, superstar potential in Josh is a good deal! Sign that paper… lets go!

Holy ****, is Love Island back on? Tell me it's not the British one because my wife loves that show.

Giddey not being signed yet could mean a few things.

Negotiations are still under way and they're trying to work out a fair deal.

The Bulls are working on trades and want to complete them before officially announcing his new deal (unlikely).

I'm thinking 5/$125 with the 5th as a PO, or thereabouts.

That would be fantastic imo. With the new CBA Giddey can't expect to get some silly 35-40m/year contract. Hopefully he takes the money instead of betting on himself and signing a 1 year deal.
