Once you heard that Dolan was in the meeting asking questions you know he was a big part of the firing. Thibs should still be the coach and Leon is not supposed to be searching for one. They have no idea who they want to hire smh

Pretty much this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The majority of the roster and Front office wanted thibs gone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Leon was rightfully overruled!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Fans tried to say Leon fired Thibs but it was Dolan all along! Dolan sat in on the meeting and forced the players to answer the questions his way. Now we have no coach and dont know what to do next.

You guys are happy Dolan is meddling again?

Leon was overruled? But when I said this they told me if that were to happen he would just walk away.

Let’s put to rest this narrative that Leon is the shot caller. He just does what he’s told because there is higher authority than him.

It really explains targeting all those coaches that are under contract, which pretty much no team ever does cuz they don’t really love the crop of free agent coaches and were pushed into this decision.

Everyone around the league can see this is a weird coaching search except the Knicks fans ignoring it and trying to suppress the truth finally coming out.

If this really was Dolan overruling Leon, then we are screwed and there is no reason to keep watching this team.

But I don't think that's it at all. There is no way Leon would have stayed on if he 100% wanted to keep Thibs but was forced to can him. Leon would've quit. So it wasn't a case where Leon wanted to keep him and Dolan made him fire him! I think Leon and WWW wanted to make this change and Dolan agreed to eat the $30M. Maybe I'm being naive and stupid but that's what makes most sense to me.

naive and stupid are stronger words than i'd use. i'd leave some room for maybe believing what you want to.

people fall in line at work all the time. that's just how power dynamics work. don't know if that's what happened, but it's by no means far fetched.

we also selectively listen to the trusted sources. katz is once again clarifying what he wrote and has not changed. either we believe him or don't.
RIP magnumt

thanks for everything, thibs.

Sounds like Katz is just making assumptions and has no actual inside info. He's just piecing together the timeline and what he thinks happened.

Dolan is a nice guy.

He was willing to take the hit for Thibs' firing to preserve Leon's friendship with Thibs. I respect that.

It is scary that Dolan was leading exit interviews and more involved. Maybe due to his personal relationship Leon stepped back a little and listened to the room. Really tough to say without more information on the process and reasoning. Maybe in his heart Leon wanted to keep Thibs, but had second thoughts in his head.

The front office did have to step in during the playoffs for Thibs to open up the lineup and change the starters which had a positive effect, but just came too late. That game 1 collapse could be partially blamed on Thibs too. I think that really sealed Thibs fate.

He did stay because he has nowhere else to go. What’s he going to do, go be an agent again? Take a lesser role as a GM somewhere else? He’s got a dream job of president of basketball ops for a historic franchise and an owner willing to spend money. No matter where Leon goes he’s always going to be overruled by ownership because that’s the way things work. The owners control their franchise and if they say cut costs you cut costs. If they say get rid of someone you have to do it. Leon knows things can be a lot worse somewhere else and there are owners who are worse than Dolan so he’s not just going to leave. Nobody leaves these positions unless there is a major fallout and the owner basically wants you gone

People still talking about Thibs we couldn’t run a successful pick and roll maybe less than 10 all year. Everything I said about this man not Coaching up plays not practicing came out in all the articles. Guys not knowing their roles bc of this hard headed mf. Go follow Thibs to the next teams he’s going to only care about regular season wins and not long term continuity. Dude coach defense can’t play defense without Mitch (defensive minded center) give me a break. Thibs had too many tools didn’t know how to use them. It was so clear.

Katz reporting that Brunson and Rose supported the guy they have close personal ties to is not surprising. I don't know what else they would say. I'm just curious why many of the people that spent much of the last year trashing the acquisitions Rose signed off on last off-season seem to trust his decision making when it comes to supposedly wanting to retain Thibs.

I can’t get over what Katz said. This is like 5 alarm fire stuff.

Dolan basically lead a pressure campaign to build a coalition against his own president of basketball operations and his best player to get Thibs out. Which completely undermines Roses authority and creates factions in the front office of dolans guys and Rose’s guys and a lot of you just seem okay with it?

I don’t see how this doesn’t put Rose on the hot seat for next year with his owner under cutting him for the first time. I wouldn’t be shocked if dolan fires rose if we don’t make the finals next year.
