The rest of them are undoubtedly making a small fraction of what he did and could be easily removed if necessary under a new potential regime (which may be coming depending on who they hire for the president role). Context is important.

Why even give them extensions if your planning to clean house with new president, rumors are they all got 3 more years. Sure they don't make 15 mill but if you're unhappy with v direction, there is no need to give contract extensions to team your don't particular like direction, even if it's "cheap". It's cheaper to give none, it's not like having gm at this point with a roster that's full and no space is going to hinder us in the short term over the next few months.

I would have cleaned house myself (as I am certainly not a fan of the team's direction and I don't know how much Bobby can be separated from Masai on that front), but somebody has to run the team in the interim while you're looking for a long-term president and it's not like any of those extensions will be an impediment going forward. Can't say I have much issue with it.

But why extend them at all, they will have contracts that aren't running out. If you own the team aren't happy you let it play out, don't go oh hey heres your three year extension, but shape up!

The reality is they were fine with where we are or heading, they didn't want to pay masai 15 mill for that privilege. But if you think suddenly this going to be change direction, then I've got some bad news for you.

My issue is that you can't fire him based off of performance. Look at his overall stay with the Raptors and tell me honestly who has done a better job factoring all the variables one gotta face being in this position leading a Canadian basketball team.

If it was about his pay or they don't like that he's also focused on making an international legacy (GOA) which btw can also be beneficial to the entire league and our team- then say that. He disliked Masai being bigger than MLSE when it came to the Raptors. He disliked Masai’s off the court political ties. As soon as Ed Rogers got his power of majority ownership last month, Masai immediately knew his days was numbered. Hence him asking if he could stay for the draft cycle at the start of the month.

Both things can be true, Masai did a horrible job over the last 3 years but at the same time Ed Rogers was never going to extend him after this current contract ran out. Whether he did an amazing job or not.

Yeah, the fact Ed thought Masai contract renewal in 2021 was too expensive - despite Masai just brought a championship to an NBA team extremely disadvantaged at attracting FA, and Masai increased Raptors franchise value many times from his arrival upto 2021 - is a clear sign Ed disliked Masai beyond the Raptors business. It was an ego thing - with or without racial undertones

Before this thread is locked. I would like to confess, I didn't really want Masai fired.

I wanted Masai to be demoted to the GM role to handle the grind of all Raptors transactions like back 2013-2019. The demotion would act as a public admission of him not doing his job 2021-2024, and would ensure Masai can bring back his magic touch doing the GM job. I wanted Dan Tolzman be given more responsibilities. Finally, I wanted Bobby to be demoted to head of marketing.

For all we know, Ed/Pelley will be the Leiweke figures that have saved this franchise from itself by removing the overpaid executive who had long since lost his fastball and instigating some much needed change. Incredibly, BC still had many defenders at the end (including in ownership) and it took an outsider to remove him which ultimately led to the historic 2013-2019 run we had with Masai.

Only time will tell whether they bring in a better president than Masai was but this franchise had taken a serious step back in the last five years. The team as constructed was/is going nowhere promising and a new vision is needed.

For all we know and more…this is clueless. You have actual sporting examples in Toronto of how much Roger’s sucks. But incredibly you compared this example to colangelo which is relatively …. The worst comparison and slant.

The only thing that can save this franchise will be bobby Webster.

I still think that Bobby as President and Dan as GM is what makes the most sense. It’s what going to arguably cost less.
