What an inspiring list. Bob Myers is the only one i would want but even then I really don't care for his drafting. Seems like he drafts based on ESPNs consensus

Get ready for an Elton Brand type hire will come cheap and be a yes man.

But Pelley seemed to emphasize he'll b a businessman first. I don't see an ex player fitting that mold.
There goes my hero. Watch him as he goes.

Pelley sounds like a moron who doesn't know what hes saying. He also said the new president will be focused on basketball

Why even give them extensions if your planning to clean house with new president, rumors are they all got 3 more years. Sure they don't make 15 mill but if you're unhappy with v direction, there is no need to give contract extensions to team your don't particular like direction, even if it's "cheap". It's cheaper to give none, it's not like having gm at this point with a roster that's full and no space is going to hinder us in the short term over the next few months.

Doesn't make sense, clearly they were good with job Bobby is doing, I.e. direction, they just v didn't want to pay masai 15 mil for this direction.

Hell they (ed) didn't want to pay masai that when he won championship..

I would have cleaned house myself (as I am certainly not a fan of the team's direction and I don't know how much Bobby can be separated from Masai on that front), but somebody has to run the team in the interim while you're looking for a long-term president and it's not like any of those extensions will be an impediment going forward. Can't say I have much issue with it.

But why extend them at all, they will have contracts that aren't running out. If you own the team aren't happy you let it play out, don't go oh hey heres your three year extension, but shape up!

The reality is they were fine with where we are or heading, they didn't want to pay masai 15 mill for that privilege. But if you think suddenly this going to be change direction, then I've got some bad news for you.

It'd be like firing mark and keep Atkins and giving him 3 year extension.

My issue is that you can't fire him based off of performance. Look at his overall stay with the Raptors and tell me honestly who has done a better job factoring all the variables one gotta face being in this position leading a Canadian basketball team.

If it was about his pay or they don't like that he's also focused on making an international legacy (GOA) which btw can also be beneficial to the entire league and our team- then say that. Instead, they did everything third class without any dignity or respect and on top of that have lost the trust of most fans.

He disliked Masai being bigger than MLSE when it came to the Raptors. He disliked Masai’s off the court political ties. As soon as Ed Rogers got his power of majority ownership last month, Masai immediately knew his days was numbered. Hence him asking if he could stay for the draft cycle at the start of the month.

Both things can be true, Masai did a horrible job over the last 3 years but at the same time Ed Rogers was never going to extend him after this current contract ran out. Whether he did an amazing job or not.

Yeah, the fact Ed thought Masai contract renewal in 2021 was too expensive - despite Masai just brought a championship to an NBA team extremely disadvantaged at attracting FA, and Masai increased Raptors franchise value many times from his arrival upto 2021 - is a clear sign Ed disliked Masai beyond the Raptors business. It was an ego thing - with or without racial undertones

Rogers is rumoured to be paying Shapiro $10M to run the Jays I don’t think Ed worried about money .. lol

If Bob Myers wants the Toronto Job and Rogers like Myers, he’ll pay him - Not worried.

Before this thread is locked. I would like to confess, I didn't really want Masai fired.

I wanted Masai to be demoted to the GM role to handle the grind of all Raptors transactions like back 2013-2019. The demotion would act as a public admission of him not doing his job 2021-2024, and would ensure Masai can bring back his magic touch doing the GM job. I wanted Dan Tolzman be given more responsibilities. Finally, I wanted Bobby to be demoted to head of marketing.

Incredibly, BC still had many defenders at the end (including in ownership) and it took an outsider to remove him which ultimately led to the historic 2013-2019 run we had with Masai.

Only time will tell whether they bring in a better president than Masai was but this franchise had taken a serious step back in the last five years. The team as constructed was/is going nowhere promising and a new vision is needed.

For all we know and more…this is clueless. You have actual sporting examples in Toronto of how much Roger’s sucks. But incredibly you compared this example to colangelo which is relatively …. The worst comparison and slant.

The only thing that can save this franchise will be bobby Webster.

It’s crazy that Ed Rogers dislike more Masai because of his swap, success into bringing a championship and political ties rather than being happy after Raptors won a championship in 2019

Looks like Ed Rogers is mad that Masai won in Toronto and therefore was force to pay a man he didn’t like

Ed’s ego need to touch grass

Per Grange:

Link : https://www.sportsnet.ca/nba/article/whats-next-for-raptors-after-major-shakeup/

A preliminary very informal list below. I don’t know but most names below feel unlikely.

“Some names in the meantime (in no order):

Bob Myers

The gold standard for front-office talent in the NBA and rumoured to be wanting to get back into a front-office position after doing television work for ESPN following a glittering run at the helm of the Golden State Warriors. Myers would fall in the ‘never-hurts-to-ask’ category, but would be an exceptionally expensive hire.

Alex Saratsis

A long-time agent with European ties whose clients include Giannis Antetokounmpo, Bam Adebayo and Ochai Agbaji, among others. He was a candidate for the president’s role with the Atlanta Hawks and would continue a mini-trend where former agents transition to executive positions (Leon Rose with the New York Knicks; Rob Pelinka with the Los Angeles Lakers; Myers, formerly with Golden State; Justin Zanik with the Utah Jazz; Arn Tellem with the Detroit Pistons).

Marc Eversley

The Chicago Bulls general manger boke into the NBA working for the Raptors under Bryan Colangelo during the latter’s tenure as president and general manager, had an assistant general manager role in Washington and later worked for Colangelo in Philadelphia. He has close ties with the existing Raptors front office and is on the board for Canada Basketball. The Brampton, Ont.-raised former Nike executive has been with the Bulls since 2020, has nearly two decades of front-office experience and was instrumental in the Raptors drafting DeMar DeRozan in 2009.

Matt Lloyd

A highly-regarded general manager with the Minnesota Timberwolves, previously with the Orlando Magic and Bulls. He has a reputation as very smart, industrious and personable, and his ighly trusted by T-Wolves president Tim Connelly, who himself is a highly respected executive and was Ujiri’s successor in Denver.

Dwane Casey

One of the most successful head coaches in Raptors history and an NBA veteran with 40 years of experience who transitioned to a front-office role with the Pistons. Few would know the Raptors landscape better.

Chad Buchanan

The general manager with Indiana Pacers who has used his background in scouting to identify players from the college and professional ranks that fit with the Pacers system on their way to their NBA Finals appearance this year.

There will be more names that surface and the successful candidate could come out of the blue. In the meantime, the Raptors will continue — business as usual — even in the absence of Ujiri, except that things are different now.

Grange getting rewarded for being a nice little lapdog the last 2 years.

Buchanan and Lloyd are good names but I doubt Bobby is going to work under those guys. Myers would be an absolute mistake: consider his record without Jerry West. Every other name sucks. Casey? LMAO

If these are the names, I fear for Raptors future. If anything, have Bobby report to the medicore president and have him run things.

"When execs are more into their charitable endeavors, that's a red flag they already accomplished what they wanted." My quote over 2 years ago. Aged quite well.
Organization can be defined as an organized body of people with a particular purpose. Not random.

Chicago looks as directless as the Raptors without the aura of trust in the FO.

I still think that Bobby as President and Dan as GM is what makes the most sense. It’s what going to arguably cost less.

Return to Toronto Raptors
