Dawson Garcia - McDonald's All American, PFOTF?

Post#1 » by vic » Sun Jun 29, 2025 2:25 am

I didn't know anything about Dawson Garcia when I saw the Pistons signed him but it turns out he's a super talented and skilled power forward in the mold of Santi Aldama, Kelly Olynyk, Jaime Jaquez Jr...

Not athletic but he shoots it from deep at will and plays in the paint with good footwork, toughness, fearlessness, and overall talent

Im all for it. 24 years old, ready to play. Definitely has a lot more going for him than a normal 5th year senior, and he definitely signed with the right team that actually has minutes available for a 6'11 shooter. I think he can slide right in behind Tobias and learn the league.

5 years of school for personal reasons:

You need 2-way wings, 2-way shooting bigs, and you can't allow low iq players on the court. Assist/turnover ratio is crucial. Shooting point guards are icing on the cake IF they are plus defenders.
Weaver & Casey, govern yourselves accordingly!

I've been watching some of him today and I just don't see it. Reminds me of that one kid in the gym who seems like he's playing out of control and you just don't know how the crap he's showing up keeps going in lol.

Plus his feet look so damn awkward when shooting the 3. Idk I wanted Killian Hayes so what do I know.

Yeah I don’t think he’s going to be a star, but he reminds me a lot of Santi Aldama in college. Not physically dominant as a big man, just looks like a big guard hooping and having fun

I like the idea, hopefully he’s got some late blooming in him.

Dude played 5 years for 3 different schools. He then entered the transfer portal at the end of this season and petitioned the ncaa for a 6th year of eligibility. The basis of his petition was that that he should be given an exemption for his sophomore year at UNC because he had to cut his season short and leave the team to return home for family reasons. But that was after 16 games had already been played. NCAA denied the petition. So here he is.

Can't blame someone in his position (2nd round pick at best, but top portal talent) for trying to stay in college these days, with the money he would have drawn. Now he needs to put in the work and start climbing.
