Renounce Caleb + Moe
Trade goga+Jett for cap space (involving Brooklyn)
This would put us around 25 M under the 1st apron
Offer Full MLe to NAW
Offer min Vet to Lopez
Resign Moe to a 7 M ish contract

That put us just below the 1st apron

Suggs, AB, Jase
Bane, NAW
Franz, TDS,
P5, JI, panda
Wcj, Lopez, Moe

I dont think it will happen but it could be done

I like it but this is too amazing to come true

Guys…

If they decline Houstan, they can still bring him back for about the same salary *after* they’ve made their MLE move or moves (assuming they’re far enough under the hard cap).

I don’t see BroLo being ready to accept a vet min yet…unless it’s LAL.

Moe is just a tough situation, because if he is unwilling to take a paycut, we likely have to let him go to build some sort of bench roster.

Franz is also a better defender than Deni based on EPM. Franz had a 4.3 EPM, and Deni was at 2.2 overall and 1.9 to 0.0 on defense.

Fair point about his age. I do think that Franz is a slightly better player. I'm mostly responding to the argument that there is such a wide gulf between the two players that Portland would need to include five FRP's. Deni is really freaking good. Whatever margin there is between the two players is already made up by the wide gap in their salaries.

Agree…the whole reason for a TO is to allow teams & players to negotiate multi-year extensions…without risk of them walking. You just don’t see TO’s on players with significant leverage. Moe is an awesome, if terribly unbalanced bench Center…bench Center. 3yrs $25m is a solid deal for a backup guy facing UFA with a large brace and months of rehab followed by the uncertainty of getting back to 100%.

I DO believe they are showing him respect by communicating throughout the process…but the FO will (and should) do what’s best for the team. Hopefully, Moe’s on board…it would be embarrassing to watch him rehab while unemployed all season, then get a vet min offer by a contender after the ASB. My guess is they’ve already agreed in principle.

Yeah, I get that argument. However, you can’t really put a premium on the defense. That’s how Orlando’s entire system works and what makes Franz a solid two-way player.

So maybe it’s not 5. Maybe it’s 2 and another positive asset. You are trading the younger, better, player that fits the system more effectively to trade out of salary banking on unrealized potential. Don’t get me wrong I like Deni and I think he’s a nice player. Not really someone you are building an entire system around.

And personally, I’m moving Paolo before Franz. For whatever reason Paolo has more perceived value around the league despite being far less efficient, less versatile, and more “one way” than Franz.

I think Minnesota can only offer NAW 175% of his current salary, which would be $7.9m.

The Cavs can only offer Jerome slightly under the NTMLE.

So the Hawks' big TPE isn't going to help them get NAW or Jerome. They'd be better off targeting Dillon Brooks.

Minnesota is already right up to the second apron already without him and they’re not gonna explode past it to retain NAW when they have Rob Dillingham and Terrence Shannon ready to replace his minutes.

But the Wolves also don’t have to take any salary back in a sign and trade either, they could just get a TPE of their own.

My point was that the Hawks have a $25m TPE. Minnesota can't sign NAW for more than $7.9m to trade him. So the $25m TPE isn't going to help the Hawks get NAW or Jerome.

If Minnesota didn't have restrictions, they could give NAW a contract starting at $15m and then trade him to the Hawks for second round picks, but they can't.

Norm Powell or Dillon Brooks would be good targets for the Hawks if they want to use their TPE on an SG.

Not going into anything deeper, but Deni is only 7 months younger than Franz. I mean, by just looking at same year of birth you can figure they aren't 2 yeras apart  ( 2001).

You're right. Deni is closer to only 8 months older than Franz.

Portland isn't going to trade Deni for anyone in the league with the contract he has. Maybe Wemby would be the exception. Deni's contract is like Steph's early contract.

I'm not sure why people continue to trash Portland. They could win 45-50 games next season.

Orlando MUST have 14 full contract players. The league has the right to FORCE a team to sign a 14th player.

That's not two-way contacts.

What happens if you only have 13 full contract players and can't sign anyone else because you are hard capped at the first apron and maxed out?

Then you go over the apron on a vet-min deal.

From the web:
NBA teams are required by the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA) to carry at least 14 players on standard contracts during the regular season. However, the CBA allows teams to operate with only 13 players for up to 14 consecutive days. After this period, the league can intervene and require a team to sign a 14th player.

In practice, teams often reduce roster size temporarily for financial reasons, especially to manage luxury tax liabilities. When they approach the 14-day limit, the league typically issues reminders or informal pressure rather than public mandates.

Several recent examples demonstrate this pattern. The Golden State Warriors during the 2022–23 season carried only 13 players for multiple weeks. As the deadline approached, they signed Anthony Lamb to ensure compliance. Similarly, the Miami Heat in the same season maintained a 13-man roster until signing Cody Zeller. The Phoenix Suns in 2021–22 signed Gabriel Lundberg late in the season, widely understood to meet the 14-player requirement.

Although the league has the authority to fine teams or reject transactions for noncompliance, such steps are rarely necessary. Teams nearly always sign a player before the deadline expires, avoiding formal enforcement. The system operates through quiet pressure and consistent monitoring rather than public punitive action.

We get it. You’ve been saying this for weeks.

But they don’t have to have that 14th spot filled until October.

Not sure what you mean for "for about the same salary", as he is on a vet-scale for his years of service. All that can be negotiated is additional years, not less money.
