I wonder what's the Lakers plan? No opt in and extend news on DFS, and no immenent trade rumors, this has a legit blow up potential...

Lakers are pretty tight-lipped. I think DFS agent would be trying to get best deal possible.

Ultimately Lakers just try get Kornet, Horford or Capela for the TaxMLE.

Then they trade for another big and perhaps a defensive wing upgrade.

I expect this team to stay:
Reaves, Doncic, DFS, LeBron, Hayes -- Goodwin, Bronny, Vando

Rui, Gabe, Kleber, Knecht could all be moved.

We'll see, I had a very low opinion of Pelinka, I don't trust him to be able to amnuever this delicate situation.

I agree, always potential for Pelinka to do something weird.

Its just such a straightforward offseason for Lakers though. They try get starting C in FA for $5m, failing that they make trades for one.

I found this:
"Up until Saturday, the Lakers can offer Finney-Smith a three-year extension worth $54 million, per ESPN's Bobby Marks," wrote McMenamin. "From Between Sunday and Monday, L.A. can offer him a four-year extension worth $90.2 million -- with his player option being replaced with a new salary.

So maybe Lakers offer a 4-year extension tomorrow.

Maybe 3/$65m with TO?

I guess point is he's had 4 months to sign extension and rules change on Sunday morning.

More like it, but they can acheive that with an opt-in.
My read is that they want to keep 26 max cap space plan, because they don't like their options.
They want DFS to opt in and try to clear Vando, use Reaves low cap hold and go from there...

It's certainly an option but I don't think they expect DFS to just opt in. This is his best time to get his last long deal.

Maybe Lakers do a descending deal that should be an easy mover.

Yeah, it's a speculation on my part, but I think they told DFS they'll give him the room exception next year, which is roughly 30/3, and 15 PO this year, makes it 45/4, and he thinks he can fetch the full MLE, we'll see how it goes.

I think the full MLE is Ty Jerome's floor. It wouldn't surprise me if discussions with Ty's agent made that clear.

Functionally traded six Second Round Draft Picks for a one-year rookie rental of Dillon Jones. Extremely poor asset management... except it doesn't matter because they have to many seconds anyways.

Yeah, if he gets 50+/4 from a Texan team, he's bolting, but it might be a smokescreen by his agent.

It's gonna be a pretty uninspiring offseason if you were looking for fireworks out of the Lakers. Unless a major trade materializes, it's pretty much going to be a "find a center who is willing to play for tpMLE" and then marginal upgrades. Right now, I think Clint Capela and Brook Lopez are likely the Lakers top 2 options at center. After that, I'd anticipate they'll see if they can move their expirings for a wing defender like Wiggins.

I'm expecting a direction, using TPMLE on a semi washed center doesn't qualify as one, if their direction is cap space next summer, then I wouldn't be as certain as you are DFS is getting retained.

I didn't really understand why the bucks are ok with Brook just walking. He started the year show but got it back later and is vastly better than any other options they have at center. Feels like he just became a doc scapegoat as the season went on. If they lose him I expect them to be even worse than I thought they'd be without Dame
