So many cry babies for this fan base...i loved Masai but let's be real last 4 5 seasons he was awful, lost many assets for free after the title, traded 1st rd picks for Thaddeus Young and Poeltl in rebuilding years, never traded up in a draft, all our drafts have been boring...he was a great gm until he wasn't anymore...he is not Messiah, Raptors will go on without him

This is all true. The only problem is we have an idiot in charge of the team now who will be hiring his replacement. If we had a non-idiot owner, we'd be a lot more optimistic right now.

someone that's able to pivot and not have an ego is key. masai was gonna blow it all up right away but things didn't work out that way and kept a coach that he didn't hire for 5 years. he didnt tear down the players colangelo left on the roster and worked with it because they were good. so if we are lucky, then this could be one of those we the north part 2 seasons.

that's the biggest issue....ujiri was slowly turning things around but it was more so, his replacement is going to be a lot worse

Just know that Ed Rogers’ track record doesn’t really instil confidence that the right guy will be hired for the job. The grass isn’t always greener on the other side.

The only track record we have on Ed Rogers' sports teams is his hiring of Shapiro with the Blue Jays (who was both highly sought after and well respected leaguewide at the time they got him). That's very little to go on.

He was neither sought after nor respected. He was known as a penny-pinching executive with experience renovating a stadium. Cleveland was one of the most mediocre franchises in baseball under his leadership. Cleveland fans were celebrating his departure.

None of those sentences are true at all and it’s really not all that necessary to revise history in order to trash Shapiro.

It was reported at the time that the Jays were looking at Shapiro, Dan Duquette and Ken Williams for the position and Shapiro was the most respected of that group at that time (and certainly considered the most analytically inclined).

Isaiah worked under the original ownership and tried to buy a controlling interest in the team. That led to a falling out and he bailed. I don't think it would happen. He is no longer a respected voice in the NBA because of his well-documented history, although I do enjoy his basketball analysis.

I'm pretty sure Yeezus was thinking about it in a comparative sense and attributing the differential. The premise of his post still holds taken this way. BTW, that differential is not "small" - it accounts for >20% of the appreciation.



More like 20ppg to 24.5ppg. That's a pretty meaningful jump.

That would also presume that Masai was the sole person responsible for said increase, which I find hard to believe.

My comment about the ppg wasn't for specific numbers, but rather the use of the words largely and incrementally being used together when they are contradictory. Probably a bad analogy to use on my part.

All in all, do I think Masai had a positive impact on the growth of the valuation of the franchise? Yes. Do I think the growth was largely in part due to him? No, otherwise we'd be seeing a massive amount of growth above the average, not ~2.5%.

Why everyone feels ed has something against masai, is because Ed didn't want to give contract extension to masai after he won us championship. Like at the top of mountain, and thought the contract/ extension wasn't deserving.

So honestly if masai won again in these last 5 years, he wasn't going to get contract extension.

It's a good episode, showing how Masai struggled with the human side of firing Casey, trading Demar, trading JV and Delon even.

Weird though, suddenly it jumped from Kawai to seeing Brandon Ingram arriving, and Antonio Davis and Shawn Marion, of all people, making comments on the Ingram acquisition . Maybe they were just in Toronto for something when the trade happened.

Pelley is not an idiot, you're basing that off of one press conference. What were you expecting? He is not going to be running the Raptors, that's what the next hire is going to be .

Ed Rogers may be a lot of things, but an idiot he is not. Rogers spends on their sports teams. He's hands off in all operations of the sports teams. Seriously, look at what Rogers has done in the last 15 years. Pretty remarkable stuff.

Ed and Masai didn't get along, and I can see why people wouldn't get along with either of them.

It was always Rogers that was in the way of a proper rebuild. Masai is elite at building while doing development and still trying to fight to compete. People forget the mess he had to clean up for BC while BC came in with everything you could ask for.

With expansion coming soon, that almost seems like an ideal spot for him. Take this year off getting paid well and spend a bunch of time on GoA. Then get hired when expansion is announced and let him be the face of the new franchise and build up a Mgt team and brand, followed by a team.
