It will be Bobby Webster or Wayne Gretzky. Ed Rogers doesent care who will be the next Raptors President, he just wanted Masai gone.

Ted Rogers passed away in 2008. His nepo son Ed is a buffoon. But I'm not sure there is a lot of evidence that he is cheap. He is content to spend a lot on a shite BJays team. They have actually been a tax team the past 2 years.

Most of the evidence points to Ed just disliking Masai.

I don’t believe in Bobby at all.
I question Bobby competency in basketball decisions.

I want a President who will tell ownership, I am dismissing Bobby at the first moment I can, and I have to approve all basketball organization decisions. Bobby is merely a cap/finance guy under me.

does bobby have the OK to make moves or must he wait for someone to get hired? and if so, is he allowed to add future salary? or will he be asked to clear up future salary? this is more rhetorical since nobody would know.

ATLTimekeeper wrote:Going off some of the names on Grange's list.

Bob Myers: Easily the best candidate on the list. Super well-connected and obviously built a dynasty. People will rag on him for his goof-ups in the draft, but he won't be drafting as President. I doubt he is interested, though.

Saratsis: Doesn't have a huge client list. He's kinda a Bernie Lee type that just bends over backwards for his guys. He considered Masai a mentor, so there'd likely be a lot of synergy with the existing regime here. I'd be a bit leery because he hasn't been in the game that long. On the other hand, considering he reps Giannis and Bam I assume he has a load of personal integrity and will be good for the brand.

Eversley: Hell no. The Bulls have been a tire fire under him. I suspect the media here will root for him because I'm pretty confident he was a source in the Colangelo days. Look for Doug to promote guys with Raptor connections in the past so he doesn't have to do much work.

Matt Lloyd: Hell no. Looks like he was all over the Rob Hennigan Magic era. I'm getting Babcock vibes.

Dwayne Casey: Would just be a massive insult to Bobby and Dan to have to work for their former employee. Casey tried to get BC fired, and then tried to save his job by going over Masai's head to George Cope. Too much baggage.

Chad Buchanan: I don't see any point in hiring someone else's Bobby Webster to do a job they've never done.

The CAA list that's been circulating the internet:

Elton Brand: The banner story during the Process is the kind of stunt I love to hear. Gave the Sixers their best team with the Butler trade. Drafted Maxey. The bad is the Harris contract. He's been shelved since Morey took over, and it's been a circus ever since. So hard to say if he'd be a good president or not.

Calvin Booth: He has the reputation of a bball genius, but bad with managing people. I don't think he's right for the job.

Grant Hill: I can't see why he'd be interested other than maybe his Canadian wife wants to leave America for awhile. He would be the best candidate with his USA basketball experience, but again, he's part owner of the Hawks and won't get that kind of cut here. I don't see him leaving.

Pat Riley: Never gonna happen, so no point in speculating.

Allan Houston: Too much Knick stink, although has experience working under Dolan so he could probably handle Eddie.

Rick Welts: He's pretty old and more of an advisor now.

Cynt Marshall: Easily the best business executive option, but she's also at retirement age. She's not coming here for what Rogers would offer anyway.

These are obviously just reporter speculation names just to get a list going for people like us to mull over.

Right now I'm in favour of just bumping Bobby and Dan up a notch.

being a new yorker, allan houston is a yes man which is what dolan usually surrounds himself with.

i initially scoffed at myers but after reading your post i took a look at his transaction log. as gm, he didnt draft steph or klay but did draft barnes and draymond in the same draft. he also hired kerr and engineered the cap to coincide with the bump for kd.

then he blew a really golden opportunity to keep that team elite by missing on 3 lotto picks. this is the part that was hard to stomach for me. then he left on his own accord when there was really no path for them to get better.

so i have no idea how to evaluate him. but i dont think a guy with his moxie is going to leave tv for a team in canada. he is high profile enough to get a bigger higher profile job for an american team. his cost would probably be close to what masai got which would make one of the premises of his firing be bunk.

Look at the Blue Jays. They need a yes man that works for cheap and the job security is outstanding despite being really bad at their job.

do you think ed rogers, pelley and the people around have enough knowledge to know if the direction of the basketball team is good or not? i know they have hockey guys but do they actually have basketball guys that are savvy enough to know?

like is anybody in their inner circle qualified enough to tell them the raptors are completely rebuilt in 1.5 years and still have their picks, etc?

because if they don't have that and are just looking at the bottom line with wins/losses while not paying luxury, then it will be tough for the next guy to really run the team the way he wants to.

I was wrong. I thought he drafted Klay, too. Myers definitely blew his lotto picks on the rebuild on the fly. I've argued that there's no salvation in the draft, no matter who is making the calls. All the greats have blown picks. Honestly I feel like Myers was kinda gutless to quit instead of look like the bad guy. But if people are thumbing their nose at Bob Myers while still defending Masai, I think they're just in their feelings. He's easily the most accomplished NBA exec alive after RC Buford.

It seems the few who wanted Masai gone have no clue who would be better than him and are coming up with the option of either just going with Masai’s handpicked guys or an executive who lived off Curry, Klay (neither of whom he drafted) and Daymond, and has been putrid at everything else.

Good times.

I have no names for a replacement, but I will say it's essential that we get someone with a history of film coordination and a record for scouting/evaluating talent.

Anthony Parker. Bring him back to work with Bobby in the front office.

In favor of just promoting Bobby and the staff. At least those guys were handpicked and hired by Masai. I don't trust Pelley or an executive search firm to make a better choice.

I think the search for a new president will drag and management will give Bobby 6-8 months to audition for the job. If he can pull off a decent trade or 2 and the team performs well next year, maybe they extend him.

Ngl it’s really starting to sink in that Masai’s gone.

Like you said that’s my biggest worry. “What changes companies is leaders, the only way to change a company is leadership.” It's honestly hard to see where things are headed.

And Masai was such a huge part of Giants of Africa’s success. Without him, we also lose that whole connection and edge. That loss goes way beyond just what happens on the court.

I don't want it to be Bobby. I think he's a great mind, but I don't think he's a President of basketball operations guy. He doesn't give me C suite vibes.
I'd actually offer it to Tolzman before Bobby, but there's no way that leapfrog can happen internally/politically.

Presti is obviously the one guy I'd poach if I could, and probably the only guy I'd comfortably take over Masai.

Abstractly, I'd want it to be a younger guy (sub 50?) who has at least two C-suite experiences with different corps, preferably international not solely American/Canadian, and who has helped build a startup, or had some sort of grassroots/developmental type role in the past. He should obviously also have some sort of connection/prior experience with basketball/the NBA or at least big 5 pro sports at a bare minimum.

I'll throw my application in too, what the hell.
