Listen, if it came out that he was making money on hitting the over for all his games…. I think Detroit should sign him for double what they planned

Yeah, I figured my post wasn't all that original, but hey, it amused me!

Just like ohtani.... Blamed it all on the trainer.

it was his translator. There really isn't any proof that Ohtani gambled- I doubt the translator would agree to any deal that would result in him spending years in prison unless he was the one who was actually responsible.

Ohtabi’s contract alone is worth $700M, before you factor in the endorsements and on top of that, his value to Major League Baseball as the face of the league. The translator could become generationally rich for being the fall guy, who’ll get time off for good behavior after he completes a gambling addiction course in prison sooner than later.

Perhaps, but I’m not doing any substantial time in prison no matter how much $ you give me- you would also need some type of very sophisticated financial scheme that couldn’t be linked back to ohtani for that to work. Also, the feds are unlikely to turn a blind eye to evidence that ohtani gambled. I think it is more likely that the translator was misallocating funds for his gambling problem and that ohtani wasn’t monitoring his own finances closely enough

If true, Malik Beasley is the new GOAT of dumbest player of all time. Porter was already a dumb move, but at least understandable from the perspective that he had barely made any money yet (even though his brother has).

Beasley on the other side has already made 60 MILLION in player salaries and is only 28. He had a 42 Million over for 3 seasons on the table. That would have been over 100 Million be the time he is 31, just in Basketball contracts alone. Why on earth does that guy need more money?

Huh? Are you confusing him with Miles Bridges?
Looks like I did. He had a gun charge and pointed it at someone in a car. Also had some drug possession stuff. Imo not a high character guy.

If he did gamble on NBA games...why???

He has made $59,948,525 for his career so far and was going to get a big pay day this off season. How much more money does he need/want?

Probably addicted to the thrill and rush that comes from risk taking behaviour. Similar to people that cheat in marriage/serious committed relationships, thereby risking everything. It's more so that adrenaline/dopamine cocktail that makes people do all sorts of insane things.

If this holds and is true, he'll get a lifetime ban. What a way to destroy your career.

Yes, it is really asked to much from athletes that play in the league with by far the highest average salary in the world, a salary that is more than twice has high as the next average salary in any other US sport, to not be involved in illegal gambling  .

Yeah, I get that, but there is still a difference between cheating or having risky hobbies and breaking the law that will most likely result in a prison sentence if convicted.

Sounds like he needs to take a trip down to mar-a-lago to kiss the ring. I think the going rate is around $5 million for a seat at the table.

Its sad, but I'm not least bit suprised. As Wolves fan and even before then in his Denver years, I been closely following his career from beginning.

And he ranks high amongst NBA's biggiest **** knuckleheads in term of being involved with something stupid or reckless off the court consistently. Wether its dating Larsa Pippen in scandalous way, multiple cheating scenarios with wife/insta model hoo haas, pounting loaded gun at a family outside his residence, getting banned 12 games for it and ending up in jail for 4 months. Proudly posting pics of his jail time and getting out, like its a badge of honour for him etc.

I'm pretty sure multiple known NBA guys are gambling addicts in the league, but it doesn't suprise me one bit that Beasley and his two bit brain cell ways would be one of the ones accused.

I hate how the NBA has partnered with betting sites, for a host of reasons, but this isn't one of them. If anything it's the reason why he and Porter got caught. If they were placing the bets on some crypto sports betting platform or through other illegal avenues, they'd be a lot more likely to get away with it.

That's why I mentioned the prop unders being more egregious. If he pulled a Pete Rose then he should definitely not be banned IMO (though a penalty is obviously still in order)

Even overs on props are risky. Players are playing for stats versus playing for the win. You could argue players do this already with salary incentives but gambling is banned so even if it's mostly positive any negative impact could be huge. What if he jacks up a 3 up late instead of running out the clock and they lose because of it?
