If Oubre 8 mil and Drummond 5 mil are salary dumped for 2nds to Washington, would we be able to use that 13 mil trade exception on Yabu and not go over the 2ns apron to resign Grimes?

Nope.

And you wouldn't have a 13M trade exception, you'd have and 8 and a 5M (can't combine)

I think they're going to decline Walker's option and Broome will be on a two-way deal.

That will open two roster spots. One to use the TPMLE on a F and one to for the best front court player they can get on a minimum.

The problem is that we need a PF, not that $16MM is too much for Grimes. We have very limited cap space and Grimes taking up that much cap at a position we're the strongest makes it a luxury.

We literally don't have a PF on the roster other than Broome. Drummond can barely play center. Embiid plays 50% of the games. PG is a small forward and doesn't defend PF's any more, if he's even healthy.

That's why $8MM to Yabu and another $8MM to split amongst 1-2 more PF/C's (Nance, Looney, Saric, etc.) is important.

I agree but looks like Morey values the backcourt depth displayed in the finals and Grimes is young. Looks like George and Oubre will be splitting time at PF lol. Another season of Knicks and Josh Hart getting offensive rebounds for second chance opportunities.

I’d love to get PJ Washington. Although undersized he rebounds and stretches the floor. Dallas has too many wings if AD is adamant on being a PF. He may be looking for 16-20 per himself after the season tho

Grimes wants $25MM/year. S&T it is

I don’t see a team willing to pay that tho lol. Nor should we be interested in taking on a $25 million contract unless it’s a good player which a team isn’t going to give up in a sign & trade.

This was my point exactly. I don't dislike Grimes, but using his salary to bring in a frontcourt player would be ideal.

Who’s a realistic S&T team for Grimes?

Portland, Atlanta, Houston, Clippers?

Why are you signing and trading Grimes?

So that we can get something in return - it also expands the amount of teams who could sign him because the only way to add players when you have no cap space left is to trade / swap.

He’d be a good fit in Atlanta

Maybe as a plan B. I think Atlanta wants to sign NWA from Minnesota into their trade exception.

Are there even teams willing to pay 20 or more? Brooklyn has Cam Thomas on a restricted tender and have to sign their 5 first rounders as well as bringing back Sharpe and Zhaire who they didn’t tender to get off the cap holds.

Detroit doesn’t even have 20 mil to spend I don’t believe and would be cheaper to sign NWA or LeVert to replace Beasley.

Spurs look like they wanna use the non taxpayer on Yabusele and sign both their draft picks.

Wizards are in a rebuild and have backcourt players including Tre Johnson.

I suppose he could always threaten to leave and join someone else for their non-taxpayer but if we offer something between 16-20 mil I think he’ll return.

Now that they paid him, they're going to feature him more. He needs more mid range chances, and should play more backup center to get those spots away from Sengun (who needs to work on his own jumper).

Really good player

I wonder if they’re gonna extend Eason soon too.

They should have the space to and stay under the 2nd apron. Many thought Smith would get 30 million

Return to Philadelphia 76ers
