Apparently Colby’s contract was non guaranteed for this upcoming season. So he was waived and OKC just extended Jaylen Williams so it was a cap move where the purpose was to extend Williams.

So it begs the question, can you trade a player with non-guarantee and then waive him? It sounds like you don’t have to guarantee the contract?

I think you can before the July Moratorium.

The only part that confuses me is I thought teams had to make the decision on guaranteeing the 3rd year of a rookie contract guy at the start of the second season. I didn't realize that decision could be postponed until the last day of his second season.

…so can we trade Holmes to a team looking to clear room in exchange for picks? $13 mil salary, $250K is guaranteed.

I truly don't know anymore.:dontknow:

Dillon Jones to the Wizards is a nice collaboration between Michael Winger, Will Dawkins, Travis Schlenk, and OKC's front office.

I wanted WAS to draft Dillon Jones in 2024. OKC will keep winning without him.

Dillon Jones can break through in the DMV.

We actually did draft Dillon Jones, but we traded him to the Knicks for Kyshawn and he was then traded to OKC from NYK, and now back to the original team that drafted him.....

In essence Jones cost Presti 6 SRP's.... Crazy for a dude who did very little.... I'd think those might be worth 1 or 2 low FRP's....

He didn’t work out, so Presti used one of his 18 remaining 2nd rounders to clear him out and provide some cap and roster flexibility. For the Wiz, he’s almost certainly not going to work out, so essentially we just bought another second rounder for a bit of cap space.

Here’s my thought about that. If you look at the G League track record of guys like Kris Dunn and Justin Champagnie and Jared Butler before they landed here it would be forgivable to give up on them early and move on. Each of them showed a bump in production when they joined here. I’m not writing off Dillon Jones or Jamir Watkins. I think both of them could see a similar growth to a guy like Champagnie. Our minor league squad seems to do a good job of tuning up tough defensive minded guards. Turning them into trade assets at the very least. A reclamation project like DJ is worth a chunk of cap space to try out. Especially since we were paid another 2nd rounder to land him. We will see. Me I think I’ll go to a few GoGo games this year especially if Will Riley gets sent down for seasoning. I think we will have a feisty team with attitude and physicality.

And OKC had to use a pick to dump him. The value of these older draftees drops dramatically if they don't show much their rookie year - not to say that he had much of a chance considering OKC's loaded roster.

At a certain point when your roster is that young and
that good, giving up one (or more) 2RP is not damaging. They
have an abundance of them. Now that they're champs,
their own FRPs are like other teams 2RPs in terms of
where/when you're picking.

Bully ball Jones. He’s like a bigger Andre miller

Will be a surprisingly fun pick up.

DNP-CD in a summer league game? Are we sure this dude makes the team?

He went down in the Suns game but I didn’t see anything about what happened to him. I was wondering if he was hurt.

It was Dillon Jones day in OKC when he got the DNP. Maybe he asked for a sick day?

Edit: It was Dillon Jones Day on 7/14, the day after the game. My mistake.

Wait... i just realized... they gave us Dillon Jones and a R2 pick for a guy they immediately waived....

Why didn't they just waive Dillon Jones instead? Why give a pick?

Dillon Jones is under contract until 2027/28. Colby Jones contract expires this year.

He didn’t look too good the first summer league game. But he’s guaranteed 2.7M this year. I think Branham and Wesley are team options this year. I think Jones stays.

I'm pretty sure the team options on Branham and Wesley's contracts were already picked up by San Antonio (you have to opt in on those a year before). So, their money is guaranteed this year. They might still get cut, but we will have to eat those contracts.

Not the first guy I'd cut, but they can feel free to ditch AJ Johnson whenever. He's not going to make it as a legitimate NBA player.

He's had a rough go in Summer League so far trying to run the offense, but he looked pretty good during the second-half of last season as an instant offense guy. I don't know if he will pan out or not, but I don't think I'd give up on him just yet. He is only 20.

Disagree. He showed enough at the end of last year to believe at the least he's instant offense off the bench. He hasn't looked like that in the first few summer league games. But that dude has talent.

A number of guys, in garbage games at the tail end of tanking seasons, can appear to have offensive talent, but I've been skeptical since he was acquired. I don't think he's trying to be a black hole, but he seems very shoot first, and I don't buy that any guy who looks that erratic on the court, with the odd gait and stand-up dribbling, is going to pan out. I'd love to be wrong!
