Love this player! So happy to see him on Charlotte but I bet we now get rid of KJ.

he is one hell of a backup pg....he's more than that though. Can't think of a better trade acquisition in a long time.

Wow I love this trade, Sexton is a really good player who wants to win and is a DAWG. We so need someone like that and it's a high profile trade. Well done Jeff.

He is only on 1 year deal. Wonder what he would want on an extension, that would be my convo before deciding on what to do with Tre Mann.

Jeff is having a terrific week! FINALLY a real back up pg. melo's ankles don't decide the outcome for a change.

I suspect that’s exactly why we haven’t given Mann the qualifying offer yet.

Nice addition and he earns roughly $400k less than Nurkic. We only gave up a likely good second so it's not a big deal if it turns into a rental, hopefully he decides to stick around in a decent sized role though, assuming we like his play next year.

We clearly got the better, younger player in this deal.

We have to do something meaningful at center now, though I think that was probably still the case regardless of Nurkic being on the team or not.

WTF?!? I saw that and thought it was a RealGM Wiretap typo. Shams is also verifying it.

How do we get the younger, better, cheaper player AND a good second. Jeff baby you changed!

But still, they clearly could’ve just cut him or waited to the deadline to do this. It makes zero sense for them

Don't forget Jeff did them a solid passing on Ace Bailey instead of trying to extort pick 21 to move down to 5. Wizards were bidding on Ace and Ainge knew it.

I’m beginning to think this was maybe pre-negotiated around draft time. Jeff calls Danny and says look, I have a deal with Washington for the #4 pick, what can you do to make me stay at 4?

That actually makes a lot of sense

You almost had me with this one though. This franchise is so cursed I saw that while scrolling down the thread and almost raged out because it seemed totally on brand.

As far as the trade goes, A+ for us because it's literally something for nothing before even considering Sexton who is also the superior player.

If the league ever begins an investigation into the tanking epidemic (lmao, but just imagine anyway) this should be one of the first pieces of evidence brought forth against the Jazz. My most charitable reading is Utah paid a 2nd to strengthen a fellow bottom feeder to increase their lotto odds, that at least makes some twisted sense. Otherwise Ainge Jr is just a nepo baby who got worked over badly.

according to Mark Stein the Hornets did in fact have interest in trying to bring Chris Paul home to North Carolina but I guess understood through various back channels that Chris Paul preferred to stay on the West Coast. And that's when the Hornets turned their attention to Sexton. So my guess is they do view Sexton as the backup point guard and not as more of the combo shooting guard paired next to a pg

yeah CP3 was pretty public in wanting to stay close to home at LA. Family first which is fair enough

sorry man, he finally got his ankle fused so he can't play sport. he was living in agony until he finally got it done.

he also was living with depression the whole time, but didn't believe the team Drs who suggested he might have it. it made him less aggressive in his play. i remember he scored 16 points in the first quarter against Alonzo Mourning once but barely shot the ball after that.

top guy, still loves to talk basketball and has been coaching a little now.
