Leon hasn’t done himself any favors with this search either. This is the biggest hire in Leon tenure and he’s interviewed 4 people. We all knew he was gonna hire Thibs last time and he interviewed more people than he’s done this time. If you’re gonna believe Knicks fan tv, it sounds like they’ve already narrowed it down to brown or jenkins. Why not cast a wide net? There has to be other rock star assistants than Nori and Borrego. Why not call up Bud or Vogul? The process just doesn’t make sense to me.

How is it a farce? It seems like they’re simultaneously interviewing available candidates, asking to interview unavailable coaches, and doing favors (getting coaches paid and getting others like her recognition). Seems like it’s in line with the way they usually operate.
They’re pretty unconventional in a lot of ways they do business. From their reported unorthodox style of trade conversations, to all the nepotism/relationship based hiring/drafting/signings, etc, to their mob style dark room meetings (Austin Rivers) and tactics (sending Randle, Wes, Houston to the arena when Jalen & Donovan were playing in the playoffs). They’re just all around different.
They’ve been denied to speak to more candidates than they’ve actually interviewed. Does that sound like hiring process that’s normal or going well? It doesn’t to me.
We’ve also already seen Leon go through this hiring process before and it absolutely didn’t look like this. He just interviewed a bunch of available coaches and assistants. There was not an embarrassing futile try to steal another teams coach phase. Pretty much no team tries to do that. Also how does helping a bunch of other teams coaches get extended help the Knicks? If anything we just pissed off a bunch of other teams with no benefit to us.
Out of the 4 people we’ve interviewed the leading candidates are Mike Brown and Taylor Jenkins. Mike Brown has been fired 3 times and Memphis forced Jenkins to bring in an offensive assistant. Do either of these names excite you? They don’t excite me.

this coaching search looking like a farce is something I can agree w/. it's been what, 3 weeks since they fired Thibs? and we have only 4 confirmed interviews (Jenkins, Brown, Borrego, Nori), and more request denials. why only 4 confirmed interviews in 3 weeks?
last coaching search, even tho we knew it was gonna end up being Thibs, was legit. they interviewed 11 candidates (reported maybe even more) w/ varying levels of experience. this year there just seems to be no plan. even if they do request to speak w/ more coaches, why take so long to do so?/why is this being slow played?
don't they want a coach in place for FA; still have work to do rounding out the bench, and despite being limited to tax payer MLE, vet mins, and possible S&T's. I would think if $ is equal, a coach in place helps a player make their decision. w/ no coach, how is a FA target going to feel comfortable about their role?
and if developing young players to help the bench is a reported priority (and it should be), wouldn't they want a coach in place before summer league? Kolek, Dadiet, Hukporti, Watson, Diawara, Nnaji, McCullar are all going to be at SL this season and 2/3 of them need to become contributors. gotta win on the margins w/ the new CBA, developing those players, should be a focus (esp. Dadiet, he's got a great skill set)

You don’t understand why people would be mad that Dolan forced out a good coach against the wishes of his President of basketball operations and best player? Then after wasting time reaching out to a bunch of coaches that weren’t available, our finalists are 2 coaches that are not better than the guy we just fired? You couldn’t even tell me you were excited about either of them!
This is an even more important hiring than when Leon hired Thibs. Why is it good that we’re talking to less people than we did the first time? We’re the only team with a job opening. Why would there be a bunch of super secret interviews that we haven’t learned about? That’s another thing that never happens. None of your points or how this process has been going makes any sense to me.

None of your points make any sense to me either lol. I don’t know how much more clear I can be tho. A lot of your takes are just kind of conspiratorial (Dolan forcing Leon to fire Thibs for example) and irrational. You only know what media is telling you, and you’re freaking out as if it’s the end all be all. Why is it so hard to consider the fact that you don’t know anywhere near the full story? Let them do their thing.
Also, I disagree (and so does the FO and majority of the fanbase) that Thibs is better than some of the candidates we’re considering. I probably said 1,000 times this year that he’s not capable of bringing us a title… his flaws are just too much of an issue. This roster is talented enough that we don’t need a Pat Riley at the helm.. we just need someone who’s not gunna get in their way the way Thibs did, and be more forward thinking and flexible. These candidates fit the bill. We’re good.

I said a few days ago the Kidd situation wasn't done. After all, the Dallas GM only said J Kidd will be "the coach" and not "the coach of the Mavs" next season, so something fans are unaware of is likely going on behind the scenes. Also, if Kidd were truly off the table, Leon probably would have made a hire by now.

Kidd as HC and Brown and Jeknins as his assistants. Let's get'er done, Donnie.
Then, trade KAT for Giannis (or Lebron) and let's go get our first ring in 50+ years.

Maybe you’re not up to date with the latest reporting but Fred confirmed that Dolan went around the pressuring his employees to say bad things about Thibs and that Rose and Brunson didn’t want him fired. But I’ll guess we’ll have to agree to disagree cuz neither of us are changing our minds.

I think part of the reason they did it last time was to highlight other coaches on the CAA roster. Also, they did hire Mike Woodson and there is a chance they were looking for the Associate Head Coach during the HC hunt.
The FO seems like they want to hire someone with playoff experience who could potentially lead a team to the finals and beyond. When they hired Thibs they were looking for a culture creator. Both of those are different expectations, and the pool for people who can go that next step is shorter.
I also think they are going to come away from this with both a Head Coach and an associate HC. Certain coaches thrive from that system and I will argue that Thibs became a worse coach once he didn’t have an associate head coach here either.
Honestly if they hadn’t fired Thibs they would have needed to hire an associate Head coach to help him manage the team.

We’re good.

If Leon supported Thibs, then what’s up with the report about them not speaking all season? Not only that but it’s known Wes n Brock weren’t fans of Thibs, so I’m not sure who Dolan had to bully to “say bad things” about him. Players spoke out against him without needing Dolan too. There’s so many conflicting reports about this… especially the one where Leon would walk if he was forced to fire Thibs… so why’s he still here? Then there’s the report about Rick turning on Thibs too. I find it crazy how such a polarizing figure like Thibs is being made out to be some kind of martyr or saint and Dolan the evil fall guy. It’s not the story I’ve been watching, but ok.

Then, trade KAT for Giannis (or Lebron) and let's go get our first ring in 50+ years.

Why would Brown agree to be Kidd's assistant when he has a better resume?

I'm team Mike Brown over Kidd, but I'll take Giannis/Kidd pairing any day. Giannis is still 30 years old, and if he follows the pattern of other elites like KD and Lebron playing high level deep into their 30's, Knicks would extend their championship window
