Reed only 16mpg? Maybe a trade piece?

Jumbo at SG is fine but lack of offense creation is going to choke Rockets

The idea for Reed is to eventually replace Fred, who only signed a 1 + 1 extension. Last year Reeds level of play wasn’t rotation worthy, if he can keep 16-18 minutes off the bench that’s a big improvement. There’s a chance Holiday takes his spot again. But still Not a trade piece yet, we have time.

If the lack of offensive creation is a problem Houston really shouldn’t sign DFS. The FO and coaching staff has to make a decision on that in FA. You have a guy like DFS, a guy like Trent, and a guy like Jerome. Different strengths and weaknesses.

If 34 minutes is the lowest we can play a 37 year old with an injury history in the regular season - on a deep team that’s arguably capable of obtaining home court without him, then I sincerely hope we don’t sign him to any extension.

I thought Reed was really decent with proper minutes and you need creation on this team. The offense stank in the offseason.

Green+Brooks for Durant+DFS is not going to improve offense enough.

Would Brooklyn give value to push the 27 swap obligation with Houston out to a future year further then that?

You probably caught his few games at the end of the season, but Ime started Reed off with a very consistent 12-15mpg for the first 25-30 games or so and he was shooting a TS% in the 30s and was getting completely destroyed on defense.

During the last 20 games of the season Reed played over 10+ mpg in 6 games, and within those he had 4 games where he scored double digits. He looked a lot more comfortable, hopefully he can keep it up, but I’ll be surprised if he’s getting 25 mpg or sharing 10mpg with Fred to start the season.

Green+Brooks for Durant+DFS is not going to improve offense enough.

Durant last season was much, much more talented as a scorer than Jalen, unless KD falls off a cliff or immediately gets injured I’d be shocked if that wasn’t a significant upgrade to the offense. Brooks was only averaging 13 ppg for us he wasn’t shooting like he did in Mem.

Houston is also likely hoping for Smith, Amen, Reed and Eason to take steps forward, for Sengun to be more efficient, for Fred to have a bounce back year.

I’ll agree though, at face value you’d think nabbing a guy like Trent Jr, or giving Cam a shot would make more sense than going for DFS, but Ime is very serious about defense.

Imo the issue with Reed isn't talent, he's a coward. When he is guaranteed minutes and there aren't guys he's scared to step on toes with out there he's great, otherwise he just wants off the ball and to hide in the corner. Hopefully as he's more comfortable in the league and more confident he belongs he gets over that

It's common for young playmakers to try do too much when they know they only have limited minutes to show something each night.

They'd be aware that if they show out for 10-15 then they are probably getting 25+ minutes that game.

Just not a good way to raise up a playmaker IMO. Given more minutes they are settled from the 1st minute.
Off bench guards is best suited to gunners.

Jazz will sign a playmaker in FA.

Just occured to me that the push to move Sexton is probably due to them wanting to bring in a playmaker and clearing the role makes it look far more appealing for an FA.wanting an opportunity to start.

So who will it be? Ty Jerome?

I would start Collier and give him a shot in a tanking season. George behind him from the start.

No idea what Utah is actually doing though.

Yeah I expect they might but to make this trade before FA. Makes me think Jazz are trying to make it a great opportunity for a PG to want to sign there.

They have a path to make a big offer for Giddey too.

I mean, you don't opt out of a guaranteed $10m without some comfort level that there's a bigger offer awaiting you. :dontknow:

I doubt it. You don't need to convince anyone in trade.

This smells like trying to convince free agents to come to Utah.

The LAKERS are reorganizing around Luka with younger players. They let DFS go to offer the MLE to Ayton. They continue trading LeBron, even a contender like the KNICKS, for OG + Robinson (The Knicks get what could be a missing piece, a player still in the top 15, and in the worst case, they get out of a very expensive long-term contract (OG)..

Micic + Green + Future SUNS FRP + Heat FRP for Claxton?

You get a young starting defensive center who fits, for the package received from Williams and you get rid of Green (who fans don't seem to want).
The NETS get 2 FRP for Claxton

Ball/Miller/Knueppel/Bridges/Claxton
Sexton/Mcneeley/Salaun/Williams/Diabate
Mann/Smith/Okogie/Kalkbrenner

Seems terrible for lakers. Rather give MlE to DFS.

IF LAL wanted to sign Ayton whilst still having room to fill out the roster with the BAE and vet mins, what would it take to move off of Kleber?

Ayton shouldn't be trusted with the full MLE, he's a TPMLE/BAE/vet min until he lroves he can play like pre 2022.
