After the season, he's supposed to be RFA I think. But since he was on a two-way, they had the option to convert him to a standard contract using the minimum salary exception (max of two years) prior to season-end, which is what they did.

THanks.

The second year in JD Davison's new contract with the Boston Celtics is both a team option and fully non-guaranteed (if the option is picked up), a league source told @spotrac.com.

Definitely gives them options. Basically no risk for them and if they want to keep him around. They could tear it up and sign a new deal like they did with Queta last summer.

Seeing this Pacers team in the Finals has got me excited about JD Davison again.

Indiana has so many fast, quick twitch, fast decision making young guys and it's making me realize we have, in JDD, a guy who brings those elements.
Obviously, JD hasn't had a chance to get his feet wet, but he's led the entire G-League in total points + assists over the last 3 yrs, so maybe his struggles are just a function of very short minutes and overeagerness.

Seeing Andrew Nembhard running around out there clinched it for me.
We should sign JD to the Queta deal this summer. Next season guaranteed, 2027 at the minimum and then a year at team option on the backend.

I just think it's worth it to make a roster to commitment to JD.

We invested three years. He was g league mvp. I think still younger than scheirman. Unless we have better end of bench options, I would sing him to a minimum deal or slightly above for 2 years.

He is just as good as the guy we would pick up if we let him go.

He is younger than Chaz Lanier, Johni Broome, Kam Jones, Ryan Kalkbrenner, and Nique Clifford to mention a few guys in the 25-35 range of this draft.
I think he has a chance to be a good player if he gets some PT.

Haven't they done that?

Assuming the $$$ works out, Tatum being out injured really benefits JD's chances of making the team
JDD is a popular player who killed it at the G-level. Fans know him and root for him and he's fun to watch. And most importantly his skillset is exactly what Brad has been saying is our weakness: stagnancy and slow pace

We may have a homegrown pace-and-pass type of guard already on the roster, he just hasn't had an opportunity to settle in and play
and if JDD is AAAA and can't play at this level, so what, atleast we found that out and losing a few more games in a gap yr, we just get a better draft pick anyway

Didn't realize it wasnt guaranteed, either way, he's not an NBA player, just taking a roster spot from a potential NBA player.

IMO, this is Stevens and the front office doing right by him.

A good look, but if a guy like Peterson who's 6'9, can handle the ball, pass, rebound and shoot decent (even though it was the g league because that's where Davison's stats come from), that would be a shame.

Or they’re using it so they can match salaries on a trade.

JD's younger than 2 of the C's 3 draft picks this year and still younger than anyone else on the regular C's roster. Came from a tiny town and high school out of nowhere, so has done fairly well for himself by age 22. He obviously IS an NBA player. Can he mature into a good and valuable one? Still to be seen.
