I'm excited for JD, tbh. Perfect year to just give him some time and see what you got.

Why not? It's not guaranteed so what's the issue now?

Didn't realize it wasnt guaranteed, either way, he's not an NBA player, just taking a roster spot from a potential NBA player.

How is he not an nba player? He is the G League MVP and the same age as Walter Clayton Jr and younger than Baylor Schierman.

Eawntjalym, for three years, we put this kid in the developmental system. I wish hebwoukr cut his hair, but he is absolutely is an nba caliber player.

We’ll see how he does this year.

He might not be able to make the jump, but I'd rather see him get a chance than for the team to really go sideways in the backcourt with the one-sided Dame and Simons.

BTW This is a Ugo thread and I'm glad to have him here!

Gotta keep up with the little guy on IG, he always posts a video or two during the offseason. Wish players would do more offseason stuff. I guess they are worried about giving other players defensive insight.

I honestly find it weird in this day and age they don’t do it, cameras are usually on EVERYBODY 24/7. I love that my Bucs picked up Shilo Sanders, he knows how to give us a good look, without giving up every moment. Give me a series like JB did many years back!!! Something like the Tatum and Kobe or JB and T-Mac!

I NEED IT!! Get me hype!!!

I think ball handling is going to emerge as the trait thatvcomes back into focus this season. A lot of teams are going to try emulating OKC and Indy success by pressing more. The window might crack open If JD is press resistant against full court pressure.

Maybe Rick Pitino was before his time.

yea, for sure.

I was watching the playoffs and watching Caruso and Dort just body guys, basically getting a free foul on every possession.

And obviously, I thought, elite speed, ball handling PG in the open court is the counter to extreme phsyical "on your body" defense if the order went out for the refs to swallow the whistle. This is the strongest element of JDs game and a very appealing attribute (if JDD can continue to get better) in favor of keeping him. It's nice that he is a different prototype of a guard from the Smart/White/Jrue, the "built" & more methodical ballhandlers we've been running out the last few seasons

If Simons is traded, that will open up minutes for JD. He hasn't gotten a chance to play with Boston yet, so far in his career. What I like about him is that he has been improving his game. Of all the G-League players last season, he was the MVP. Number # 1. That doesn't mean it will translate to the NBA but the improvement is there. As a result, the hard is there. They go in hand in hand.

I didn't like Jaylen Brown when we drafted him. I didn't like him his rookie season. I didn't like Brown in his 2nd season. By his 3rd season, he won me over because he kept working, kept improving. That's the type of guys you want on your team. Same with Tatum, White and Pritchard. Hopefully, Davison and Hugo will be like that too, along with Garza, Queta and Minott.

I think his early-years coiffure, less-than-handsome visage, and kind of saggy body (though bulk in the boot can be helpful at his size), have worked against him in Boston. We've got, who was it, the Maine coach, saying he was the smartest player he had coached? He can clearly play the traditional point. Can he play enough off the ball with stat-chasing stars? I'd guess so, but we'll see. The next 6 months should be interesting. Can he fit and get time with PP and AS, however? That could be a challenge. Brad's gotta get some work done.

I want JD to get minutes, but I don’t want Simons traded just to get them. Simons should be traded to save money and/or for better assets.

Think there could be minutes for JD as constructed, maybe 10 minutes here and there, don’t think Joe likes him though.

When is his guarantee date? If it is in December why not bring him in and see if we have something in camp and first part of season?

This guy is the G-League MVP, averaging 25/7/5. Not sure how much that matters in relevance to the NBA but that's NOT nothing. He's been patient and has paid his dues with the franchise. It'd be a shame to cut him off when he's never really gotten a true shot with the main team. And by true shot, I mean something like a being a nightly 15 mpg rotation guy. Hopefully he gets that chance.

Unless there is a deal where he has to go for a variety of reasons I dont see the risk in keeping him around and competing. If it isn't him, it will be someone else with same contract. Mind as well let him take a shot at it. Maybe his shooting comes around and he calms down at the nba level. He will be a big scorer in Europe. That is for sure.

Right now, the Celtics have made him a lot of money. A G Leavue mvp with his profile would kill in euro hoops. I think he can get big payday there, or, he could take his last shot at nba. Kid gonna be OK.

very low-key reporting, take it FWIW, and apologies if already discussed, but Noa Dalzell on some CLNS podcast within the last couple of weeks mentioned that JD has NOT been around the facility or team at all this summer.

My guess is he's the obvious cut if they were signing Dame, or Bassey, or (dream hat on) Al, or anyone else, and that he knows this. He also probably knows that if they move Simons, there's a roster spot and maybe some PT for him.

If he stays, and plays, cool. But also: whatever:)

2025 g league mvp - JD davison
2025 g league finals mvp. -mason jones
2024 g league mvp - Mac Mcclung
2024 g league finals MVP - Ousmane Dieng
2023 g league finals MVP - jaden springer
2023 g league mvp - carlik jopnes
2022 g league mvp - Trevelin Queen
2022 g league finals mvp - Trevelin Queen
2021 g league finals mvp - Devin Cannady

None of them have done anything in the NBA. Well, Springer kind of has done something in the NBA but he's barely hanging onto a spot in the league..
