I think ATL is holding on to Okongwu , they're chasing wins this year and I think they'd prioritize OO over Capella.

I truly think there’s a center out there we think we can get. No clue who, but there’s no way the roster as currently constructed is the plan for this season

I'd be happy using assets on any of Bam, JJJ, or Gobert.

I'd also be ok with Bitadze or Claxton.

Yeah I dunno, worried about the lack of defensive chops but wouldn't be the end of the world with him

Charlotte about to trade for Embiid. I don't even know what the cost of that would be at this point.

Nice write up JMAc!

Helluva trade by JP to land Sexton and a pick for our garbage.
We finally have a top quality back up PG/SG!
Love the deal

Ben Simmons would be a cool acquisition with our current backcourt

I actually have him at the top of my FA target list.

Mainly because he plays defense. I like him at that backup pf/point role. Have him run with Kon/Miller get them some open 3's.

We need a center right now tho.

yeah center is priority #1, but I do want another playmaker. Sexton isn't an expert playmaker by any means, neither is Tre or NSJ off the deeper side of our bench, and nobody really knows how thrusting Kon into that secondary playmaking role is going to work.

Trying to think of a realistic free agent center we can sign within our mid-level exception, and Day'Ron Sharpe came to mind since the Nets didn’t extend a QO (it would have tied up to much cap hold). Is he ideal? Of course not. Would he be a better fit than oldsters like Brook Lopez? I’d think so.

Guys like Jarrett Allen would be better, but what do you trade for him? Miles? Where would they play him? Then we’d be short a starting PF. And DO NOT suggest that, in a Miles trade for a center, we start Diabetes! Certainly not Tiddy :banghead: .

What I’m getting at is this;

1. LOVE getting Sexton for Nurkic! Great trade! We’ve got a super backup PG/6th man, while having a reliable fall back should Melo get hurt or traded.

2. Losing Nurkic exposes our weak 5 spot further. It was a leaking ship…now it’s got a massive hole in the hull. I love Kalkbrenner but he’s not ready to come in here and play heavy minutes right away. Diabetes is a splendid asset but he’s undersized and can’t shoot.

3. We all presume Jeffie has a master plan to go get a starting center. BUT…he emphasized multiple times, even “DOUBLING DOWN” (hate that phrase) that he “will not shortcut the process of development and steady progress” by going for a (paraphrasing) “big trade or free agent splash”. So I’d be shocked if he engineered a trade for Allen or Claxton (who do the Nets play at the 5 if Claxton is dealt?).

So seriously, where do you guys see our next center coming from, and who?

Man would Clingan have been a blessing here, now going into his second year.
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

I think we gotta give JP a minute or three here to make some more calls. My guess he he wants a younger more mobile big. Kornet, M Wagner, Sharpe, Precious or a trade for bigger names?

Put him at backup pf let him play point forward. We could use his defense more than anything.

i think he will go to a competing team on a minimum deal.

I think if we wanted Clingan he's still gettable. Portland already had Robert Williams and Ayton then drafted Yang at the higher end of his predicted range.

Thing is I don't think our FO likes Clingan, or that C archetype generally. I think they want a Porzingis or a Lopez, a 3+D 7 footer for Lee's five out system. I'm not sure who, if anyone, fits the description but I predict that is the type they'll target.

I also completely agree with your 3rd point, if no one they love is available they'll be just fine trotting Diabate and Kalk out there to get killed every night. They've been nothing but consistent in their messaging regarding eating losses now to build a better tomorrow.

this is my thinking as well. You don't trust Porzingis to be your starting centre all year, he will sit out half of it and he can play power forward.

I don't mind Capella as a stop gap signing. Hard working athletic big
