Re: Official Trade Thread Part XLVII
Indy has shown that you don’t actually need a “superstar” to compete. They made it to the finals and a 7th game with two stars (Haliburton & Siakim), depth, and defense.
Yes, I want a superstar (or two) but I like the type of team the Zards FO is building in the absence of a superstar—tall, long defenders 2-3 deep at every position.

Beasley really matter to them. He played well. That sucks . I hope it's just a misunderstanding.keynote wrote:The Pistons are presumably hunting for a Beasley replacement. Assuming Ivey is healthy and ready to return to the starting lineup, what could we get from Detroit for Kispert?

Stellar role players playing unselfishly, and everyone playing team ball

The feds don't miss too often. If they have a case, he's probably done for.
Always remember, my friend: the world will change again. And you may have to come back through everywhere you've been.

It sounds like next year there are a handful of kids that could be the top pick, and then couple that with the cap space I think our all in year will be 2026-2027. I hope Ted still has the patience for it and he realizes because of Tommys screw up, you almost have to tank just so that the pick doesn’t convey.
Why? Why would they be all in on '26-'27? We have zero franchise players as of now, 12 month's from essentially the start of the '26-'27. I hear a lot of people making this statement and I really don't get it. If we land Dybantsa, Peterson, or Boozer, that's 1, potentially, but right now, to me, if you're arguing we'll be out of the tanking business in '26-'27, you must believe we have a superstar franchise guy in house. Who is he? Tre?

All in meaning playoff contention, not championship.. This upcoming season will be Year 5. Yeah Winger and Dawkins just got here like 2 years ago but 5 years is more than enough time and I think the goal should have always been 2026-2027 because that's when we actually have full control of our first round picks again.

Meh. I believe the Robbins article where he cites front office sources as saying they expect to be in the rebuilding and assessment phase at least until 2028. They are not in a hurry. I bet some urgency is delayed until the new building opens.

Not sure what a "superstar" is, exactly, but Hali comfortably among the top ten players in the league.

I wouldn't say "comfortably".
Jokic, SGA, Giannis, Luka are obviously better.
Tatum, Wemby, Edwards and Curry are better.
I have him in the next tier alongside guys like Mitchell, A.Davis, Brunson and Kawhi.
So somewhere in the 9-12 range. I could even be talked into 8th over Edwards. But I wouldn't call it comfortably in the top 10.

There are 4-5 “superstars,” imo. And, if you consider Tatum and Kawhi superstars, the last 14 NBA champions have had one of these superstars on it—LeBron, Curry, Giannis, Joker, SGA, Tatum & Kawhi.nate33 wrote:payitforward wrote:DCZards wrote:Indy has shown that you don’t actually need a “superstar” to compete. Hali may get there but he’s not in that class yet.

Size of the selection set is likely too small. Just say he is in the top tier of NBA players.

I wouldn’t put Tatum on there. Maybe prime Kawhi but no longer. Superstar is an MVP candidate.

There's not enough terminological precision around the word for it to be used to define an exact set.. Mostly its a term of world-class praise -- like "genius."
E.g. everything particular you might say about Tatum, I'd likely agree with, yet I wouldn't call him a superstar. OTOH, u don't mention Jimmy Butler at all -- but for sure he'd be on my list!
Anyway, we'll get to see where Tre winds up. High on the list, we all hope!

Since u bring up the subject mon ami...
Last Wednesday, doc and i met at mcgintys. in silver spring to watch R1 unfold.
On the way home i stopped at a cvs and picked up a couple of cartons of soda. Heading back to the car I stepped off a curb w/o noticing it was there.
At my age, esp w/ arms full, there was no catching myself, & down i went -- hard.
i fractured my right elbow and a shoulder bone

The fractures aren't displaced, & with some luck i'll avoid surgery. But i am all splinted and slung and in a fair amount of pain. Mostly immobile, sleep sitting up, etc. Sucks....
This too will pass... I hope!

Nah what they showed was, if alot of injuries happen to multiple teams, you might luck into the finals where you'll eventually lose.... I don't wanna follow that formula as I doubt they'll be in the finals again anytime soon......
Also Sarr can be a star, so I don't know why our fans aren't reconizing what he can become.... His biggest issue is strength related, and that is easier to fix than learning how to dribble, or how to shoot, or how to pass.... Sarr is going to be a star if not a superstar, and all his doubters will have looked dumb for not seeing the obvious.... 7fters usually don't move like Alex....
I think Alex is going to outplay most if not all of his comps..... I think Alex has 25ppg, 9-10rpg 5-6apg potential with his skill set.... With an additional 2-3bpg, and 1-2spg..... That's an ALL-NBA player....
