The return of Santander and Varsho should be more than enough if these two perform like they can, i would load up on pitching instead.

Santander has been horrible though. Are we really expecting him to pick it up and he a contributor? It reminds me of bichette last season with the injury. He was pretty much a write off for the season. Idk if we can really count on him to be a productive player for us this year.

You are talking about an alleged domestic incident from December 2015. Nearly 10 years ago. Prosecutors did not even file charges in the end, due to insufficient evidence and his girlfriend at the time changing her story. That should be no reason for this organization not to acquire Chapman for something he was not even charged with almost 10 years ago.

I’m pretty sure bass was ass at the time they let him go no? 4.95 era out the pen, he lost it… the off the field stuff just made it easier.

You only have so many assets to trade and if i had a choice to make i would put my eggs on pitching. We've been ok offensivly after a horrendous start of the season. They invested a lot on Santander, you have to give him a chance to right the ship. Both Varsho and Santander can bring the power we need to be a good offensive team. Pitching is just way bigger need imo that's why i would load up on that.

Odds are that he'll be better than he was, but they're not gonna just bench a player with that contract and of his caliber historically. He's gonna play full-time when he gets back.

The biggest issue for this team all season has been starting pitching and that still isn't shored up even with Scherzer healthy (for now). That's gotta be the primary addition.

Not saying I don't agree. But trust me if you go on twitter and stuff, you'll see plenty of fans still bringing it up whenever Chapman is mentioned. Cancel culture is a big thing, especially here. And I don't think the organization would've wanted to be in that position. Especially after the Osuna situation too.

Side note when was the last time we signed a big name free agent that actually performed up to expectations? I guess Springer in 2021…

Gausman. A very good signing made in the 2021/2022 offseason.

Also Bassitt if you count him.

I should’ve said position player.

If you look at all the guys we were rumoured to be linked to, Alonso, Bregman, Teoscar, I guess Soto too… they’re all having solid seasons. We end up signing the one guy that’s a Lemon.

It's very unfortunate. Teoscar was the guy this organization should have pursued (his agent even reached out to the Jays) when Alonso declined the Jays. Teoscar was looking for a three year deal.

Instead we tied up 5 years for Santander. If you do a deep dive into his hitting metrics over the years, he was always an overrated player from my perspective. That being said, hopefully Santander can come back healthy and look more like his 2023 self.

Santander was two years younger than Teo, which was a factor. They wanted to get at least a few years of Santander in the field and use the DH to rotate spots.
