Because he's Aussie and plays in a very weak league by comparison to most draft picks.

From the "Draft Confidential" at The Athletic:
Western Conference executive No. 4: There’s not a lot to go on. The numbers (in Brisbane) weren’t staggering. But his size, and he’s young and he blocks shots – you’re betting on that. These big foreigners, you have to expend a pick on them. You’re not getting them in the G League. And you don’t lose the value of those guys (if they stay overseas for a year or two after getting drafted) because you keep their rights.
Eastern Conference executive No. 3: He was supposed to be the prize of the class. Even if he keeps his name in, he probably goes late second round. He just hasn’t done enough to warrant a first-round pick. And with bigs and injuries, they want to see proof of life. I don’t want to see some big guy that’s been hurt half the season, and is now pushing himself into the draft.

His dad is 6'10" and his mom is 6'1"....height definitely runs in the family
Good feature profile on him from November 2021 at age 15

Re: The Rocco Zikarsky Thread
Being Australian I watched a fair bit of Rocco this season.
He's incredibly raw and likely won't see an NBA court for 1-2 seasons, but there's a lot of upside there. Great size/length and has really good touch for a 7'3 guy, showing some potential to stretch the floor and have an offensive game that goes beyond finishing lobs.
He was mocked by some as a lottery pick at the start of the season but got very little time at the Bullets. This wasn't a popular move and the (now fired) coach was heavily critisiced for it at times by fans and the media.
Also, love the picture Wolf Addict, up the Riff!

This is an incredibly dumb take, but a big reason that I like the pick is that Rocco Zikarsky is a fun prospect to track progress on, even if it doesn't work out. Having a 7'3" giant on the team who actually has some intruiging basketball skills is interesting.

Guy may be one of the most athletic guys at that height to enter the league in decades. We are lucky to have the chance at him panning out.

Re: The Rocco Zikarsky Thread
I don't really like that this is happening, but I'm personally getting more drawn to the upside of Zikarsky that my excitement for his potential is overshadowing my excitement for Joan Beringer. Rocco's size and skill set just gives him a baseline that feels much safer to project than the complete unknown of Beringer at this point.

I've noticed a few people talking preference for Zikarsky and my belief is that's going to look really foolish. That said I just started seeing a bit of Rik Smits in Zikarsky.

It might be the hair, because I've definitely seen the glimpses of my fellow Dutchman as well.
