Man would Clingan have been a blessing here, now going into his second year.

I think if we wanted Clingan he's still gettable. Portland already had Robert Williams and Ayton then drafted Yang at the higher end of his predicted range.

Thing is I don't think our FO likes Clingan, or that C archetype generally. I think they want a Porzingis or a Lopez, a 3+D 7 footer for Lee's five out system. I'm not sure who, if anyone, fits the description but I predict that is the type they'll target.

I also completely agree with your 3rd point, if no one they love is available they'll be just fine trotting Diabate and Kalk out there to get killed every night. They've been nothing but consistent in their messaging regarding eating losses now to build a better tomorrow.

Williams and Ayton are more likely the bigs they want to get rid of.

Don’t want Wagner, coming off torn ACL. Don’t want Kornet…Kalkbrenner will be a better version of him in due time.

Watching more film on Day’Ron Sharpe who is NOW a free agent, and we MUST sign him. Best reasonable FA option available, since seeking trades just isnn’t likely to happen at this point. Sharpe reminds me at times of Mark Williams. He’s rugged, 6-11 265, plays with more body than Mark did post-recovery. He can hit a 3 occasionally, was almost 53% FG, 75% FT, good rebounder (6.6 RPG @ 18min pt), blocks some shots but not prolific there, and finishes decent at the rim. Sharpe is a good passer, sets good screens, and a lob threat. Runs the floor OK.

Lakers fans are screaming for them to sign him. Would we have to offer him the full MLE?

He is a restricted free agent. Nets have 35 million cap to match any offers for Sharpe. Conversely, Nets can even use their cap to price out other teams and steal their restricted free agents, for example Kuminga.

We would have to trade assets for Sharpe.

I would think the Nets prefer to move Claxton.

Actually scratch all that - Sharpe is unrestricted so yes, we would need to secure him on the MLE. Lakers have the Full MLE? If so, they can steal him for their superstar pouters.

How many other teams can ayton walk into right now and immediately become the starter? Five? My first guess is he will sign for the Lakers. But if he wants to have a better chance at pumping up his stance come to Charlotte on a 1 plus 1 deal. Rehab the image and then get paid again next summer.

The narrative around Ayton has gotten so toxic that I'm not sure whether I should want him or not

Lakers makes the most sense, play for bugger all but possibly win a championship while improving his reputation as a role player

Ayton has a low motor and questionable character.

Doesn't seem like what Peterson is looking for.

It's been a while since I've watched him closely. I swear every time I saw Portland over the past two years he was out. But it's very possible that the Hornets wouldn't want someone coming in expecting touches and expecting to start. That may be the antithesis of what they're trying to build. And I think it's a 80% chance he ends up in LA Or maybe Boston

But he'd be by far the most talented center available

Ayton is someone you absolutely want at the MLE or less, not on a max.

Stack talent now, worry about the other **** later

I don't see Ayton as a target.

Donovan Clingan would've made a nice target though, if I do say so myself.

Love that Aston is now a FA…let the Lakers sign him. I don’t want his slack ass here.

I’m telling you our target needs to be Day’Ron Sharpe. His coming here would be a full circle success story. Check out this YT video from 2 years ago on his journey from Greenville, NC to the Nets. Listen to how he was raised, how he conducted and conducts himself. Listen to what coaches said about him. High character, hard worker, continuous improvement. This guy is only 23, went to Carolina, comes home to make his pro career really take off. He’s not a star, but he’s a quality center for the MLE. Unless we’re trading Melo for a stud 5 Sharpe is our guy.

I think Ayton is a better fit on the Lakers than the Blazers, he needs strong experienced leaders like CP3 to keep him engaged, does LaMelo "F1" Ball or Miles "Wife Beater" Bridges hint at a strong locker room leader? Conversely I think Capela could soak up mins here and maybe get 4 2nds or a late 1st to a desperate contender at the deadline. I also don't mind at least making the Nets overpay to keep Sharpe.

Sharpe sounds like a great fit. Hopefully he wants to come home and gives our mle deal a shot.

Dunno why some of yall are so fixated on Clingan. I didnt think he looked very good in any of the 4 blazers games I saw last year.

Sharpe seems solid at MLE.

Trade targets for me would be JJJ then whoever else. Id sell out for JJJ on this time right now.
