No one has cap to give Grimes $25m even if this sketchy report is true. $16m is the best offer, or he can take the RFA qualifying offer instead.

Sign and Trade Grimes to ATL for 1st and their trade exception. Then you can use your full MLE for some quality F/C.

I’m willing to part with Grimes for a lightly protected 1st next year and another good 2nd or protected 1st, with no salary back.

If we have to take back a contract the price goes up.

Legal tampering is tomorrow. Would have been rumors if Hawks were interested in Grimes. They have been linked to resigning LeVert and signing NAW into the TPE. If they were asking for a first would get us hung up on lol

Can the Hawks even get Grimes with anything besides the NTMLE?

It’s so quiet, I feel like we haven’t been linked with anyone really. Most of Moreys FA moves have been quiet though.

They have a 25.2 million trade exception from the Murray trade. They plan to absorb salary into that and so they don’t have to send matching salary back.

We’ve been linked with Grimes and said to want to being Yabu back. But will probably get beat out by the Spurs.

Yea the way Daryl speaks about Grimes is like he’s already part of the rotation next year. He also makes it seem like Yabusele will be out of our TMLE price range.

I really hope he’s looking at the small crop of big forwards available.

Gauging the room on this. If Pels for whatever reason fell in love with Grimes, would you do S&T Grimes (25mil) & Clips 2028 for Murphy (25mil)?

"Quentin, here is your qualifying offer. We encourage you to look around the league and see what offers are out there".

He's going to end up playing on his QO if that demand is not very flexible. Which is fine.

Sure. There's no shot that happens, though. Also the Sixers would have to send Oubre and Drummond into cap space or an exception somewhere to make the money work, which will probably not be cheap.

Did anyone think Dumars would be dumb enough to trade an unprotected 2026 pick for Queen?

Also, I think by declining cap holds for Butler/Walker we cleared enough to do it straight up.

S&T outgoing salary only counts 50%. Also, if at any time you accept more money back in a trade then you send out, you are hard capped at the 1st apron.

I agree Dumars is stupid. But praying for stupid is not a way to build a team.

Which ones? We knew PJ Tucker and House several weeks before free agency. Marc Stein reported them that Morey had a deal with them before Harden even opted out to create cap room. That’s how they got hit with tampering. And everybody was talking about his plan to go after PG for a full season. They were heavily rumored to be in on Caleb Martin for days before they signed him. Drummond was a surprise. I wouldn’t say Morey exactly works in the shadows.

They just drafted a guard that could be a point guard with similar size. They have Murray already. They have Jordan Poole. Unless they trade Poole or Murray for him, that's not happening

I don't think that's correct. Fanspo says a trade of Grimes at 25mil and Drummond would work and we aren't hardcapped as we're not the team receiving the signed and traded player.

Don't think Poole's a long-term option; but I was just curious if folks would be willing to package the Clips pick with Grimes if Pels did something crazy like try to offer him 25 mil to get Murphy back.

I agree, I don't think Pels do it; but they are about the only team dumb enough and with an asset of similar contract value that I'd have any interest in if a team went crazy on Grimes.
