Of course Woody's "final" rehab start is rain delayed and could be rained out.
I'm against picketing but I don't know how to show it.

Fine giving him a shot for a couple weeks if they want to send Patrick down, but I think the odds are very low that he's actually deserving of a spot in the rotation.

Very much in favor of the call up, but odd timing.

Yea, despite being a switch hitters he has massive platoon splits. Should be able to give Durbin or Ortiz a day off vs RHP though. Curious what the corresponding move will be. If they DFA Cameron than Bauers is their only backup OF, if they send down Monasterio then Turang is their backup SS. Wonder if they are putting Contreras on the IL?

Please take this with whatever grain of salt you need to. I am not a scout, but I was at the game last night in Jacksonville for Woody's last rehab start. His fastball seems to be at least 3 mph slower and was having trouble locating the zone with it. I also know he was having a bit of trouble with umpire. The catcher challenged a few calls last night. So it might not have been all Woody, but I can tell you, he did struggle a bit. Especially early. His slider was also a bit slower than I remember at about 91-92. His change up looked pretty good at about 84.

Please take this with whatever context you need to.

Also, Perkins looked good. Missed a diving catch that would have saved runs. But his approach looked good and he looked fairly good in the OF. Bobby Dalbec looked very good. Very Good. Very disciplined at the plate.

Seigler's OPS shot up to .881 this year and you have to like the on-base numbers. I think he can stick.

Really fun blog.

Once, after Reggie Jackson had a tough day against Nolan Ryan, a reporter said, “Reggie, what happened? I thought you liked fastballs.” He replied, “Yeah, and every kid likes ice cream, but not rammed down their throats by the gallon.” This is the same phenomenon that describes Misiorowski. Sure, hitters like fastballs middle-middle, but not like that.

Apparently, he gave up switch hitting and hit exclusively as a lefty now.

Seigler has responded by hitting .277/.416/.465 this year for Nashville, which is 50 points better than his .227 career average. He’s slugging an even 100 points above his .365 career mark.

Is this sustainable in the majors? There are some reasons to be skeptical. He’s posting a .331 BABIP after never before having a BABIP above .300 in the full-season minors. He’s hitting more line drives, but his max exit velocity (107.2 mph), 90th mph exit velocity (101.4 mph) and average exit velocity (90.4) are all well below MLB averages.

He’s also actually swinging and missing a bit more this year (23%) than he did in 2024 (21%), but because of the smaller strike zone in Triple-A, Seigler’s patience is being rewarded, as he’s posting an excellent walk rate (18.4%).

But those on-base skills, versatility and demonstrated ability to grind his way through plenty of MiLB struggles all should serve Seigler well with the Brewers. The chances of Seigler becoming a star might be quite small, but he’s going to be a big leaguer, which seemed very unlikely just a couple of years ago.

They never spend much money, and don’t play in the deep end of the free-agent pool. They trade All-Stars in their prime. They dump players before hitting free agency. They can’t afford to even keep their talent in the front office and manager’s chairs.

All they do, year after year, in the most unconventional way, is win.

We count them out every year, usually in spring training and certainly before May, but you look up at the end of the season and there they are, playing into October.

They are the lovable Milwaukee Brewers.

They reside in baseball’s smallest market, with a payroll barely enough to cover the bratwursts to feed the players in the clubhouse, but lead the baseball world in creativity.

First-half MVP: Brice Turang (119 AXE, 1st on Brewers, 65th in MLB). Turang is again flashing Gold Glove defense at second base and stealing bags when he gets on base, which he has been doing more than ever. His OBP is fueled by a .288 batting average, which, in turn, is fueled by a .363 BABIP. Fluke? There might be some regression in store, but the improvements are real. Turang's line drive rate is 3% better than the league average, and his hard-hit rate has jumped by 16.3% over last season. Turang has tacked on 4.6 mph to his 2024 average exit velocity.

Sounds like Andre Vaughn is on his way up. I'd expect a Bauers/Vaughn platoon for awhile
