This was actually pretty smart of his agency to get a buyout and pounce on the Lakers and even the Hornets desperation at center. He has no future in Portland. They already won the trade getting Camara. He’ll get the full MLE from someone. Portland saves $14-15 million and got a future DPOY candidate for taking him. Ayton tries and gets a third decent contract on a desperate team that needs a center or becomes Drummond. Win win for both.

Exactly that. He was gonna rot on the bench behind Clingan and Yang and they decided to cut him loose.

Well…LeBron can’t be blamed for anything and Doncic is the new darling so Ayton is the perfect scape GOAT.

I was hoping and expecting this to be one of the first replies. You did not disappoint. Jroy have it all.

Hope you said this with a straight face lol

Can you put together a logical reason for the Lakers being the clear frontrunner, or is it just half baked conspiracy theory revolving around you being triggered by LeBron James?

Why everyone assume Lakers?

Because the lakers have no leverage and have been having a hard time making a deal for a Center. Teams are taking advantage.

Then you have Finny-Smith opting out and we all know the lakers needed to keep as many defenders as they could or get a Center.

Then you have this out the blue.

It all lines up.

Hornets just traded their C a few hours ago. Hornets have reportedly made several attempts to trade for Ayton over the years. How does this not line up even better for them?

Yes they need a C but this buyout happened strictly to get the Lakers a C. Charlotte isn’t a team that receives players gift wrapped in such fashion.

What exactly were the Blazers going to get for Ayton’s lazy ass? They already fleeced the Suns getting off an even bigger bum in Nurkic and got a stud Camara in the process. I forgot on the Internet you guys cry about 2nds. If he takes the MLE, that means they are literally getting 40% of his salary off their books and don’t have to take back a bad contract or have him in their locker room until February. They been won the Ayton trade. Even if he takes a tax payer’s MLE and they only save $5 million they still won the trade.

Bill Duffy is playing chess . He knows his client will rot in Portland so just take the huge buyout and get him to desperate center needy Lakers once DFS opted out. Also use Ayton’s next contract as a pawn for Luka. I’m glad he got Mr. My biggest achievement is to get a 2nd contract to see the bigger picture.

Totally agree people need to lay off the conspiracy theory crack, even if Ayton is solid elsewhere it would've been a cancer to have him around their young core

Should be a no brainer for Ayton. He would get a prominent role and if there’s anyone that could secure another bag for him it’s Luka/Lebron.

Nobody has $36m to trade on a center like Ayton. There aren't enough bad contracts anymore and nobody has cap space.

Simmons needed 2 SRP's for a bad contract and Ayton basically was still negative value even on an expiring.
simmons didn’t need 2 seconds, the Blazers just got worked.

And there’s plenty of bad contracts out there. The team just needed to be patient. But they have no idea what they are doing at all.

How do you know they didn't test the market and try to trade him? His trade value was most likely horrible so you aren't getting anything in value in return.

The options are either attach a pick, play him in his final year, or buy him out. The third option is the best option.

Last time I checked, the Cavs didn't even make it out of the second round. Im not saying it isnt possible with the injuries in the East, but the team doesnt scream optimism.

Yeah I am pretty sure he is going to Lakers. Unless Brooklyn throws a crazy offer to him, but they don’t even need a center.
