Re: Collin Sexton: Welcome to Charlotte
you have to start him don't you? then stagger the line up so he's back up point guard?
he has been a solid starter most of his career. he's a better Rozier.

Don't forget Jeff did them a solid passing on Ace Bailey instead of trying to extort pick 21 to move down to 5. Wizards were bidding on Ace and Ainge knew it.
I’m beginning to think this was maybe pre-negotiated around draft time. Jeff calls Danny and says look, I have a deal with Washington for the #4 pick, what can you do to make me stay at 4?
That actually makes a lot of sense
Means we valued a win-now player (Sexton) + 19 million cap savings on a useless piece (Nurkic) for any serious team, over pick 18 from the Wizards. Before we traded Mark later in the first we had potentially already lined up a move to trade our other key center Nurkic after the draft.
This all hints at:
1) We also worked on a negotiation for a serious center to replace Mark leading up to any of this, possibly going as far back as the first time Mark was dealt.
Nurkic was never gonna start this season here.
2) Jeff Peterson has a close relationship with this trade partner and the trust is mutual because a great deal of time has elapsed since he first traded Mark back a day before the trade deadline.
I still think it's Claxton.
I think a LaMelo/Sexton backcourt is serious offense, augmented by scoring from Miller and Miles.
Claxton is the most serious defender on the market for centers.
I think multiple teams are bidding on him. I hope we are one of them because while feeling fine with the offense, we all know the defense needs a captain.

i have no idea what Brooklyn are doing, is Sexton a realistic chance?
looking at the money, we would have to send Bridges wouldn't we? would they want him?

YES! Love that attitude, drive, focus…YOUNG BULL.
So what would Melo’s moniker be? (Hint… it ain’t anything like bull).
I continue to wait...and hope...for the return to Hornet's glory.

Claxton makes 25. He's easy to match even without Nurkic.
Could just be Nets never wanted to take back Nurkic but now they don't have to thanks to Ainge.

This trade is probably getting a bit overrated at this point. I like it but seeing social media kind of losing their minds over it haha

Clear win for us, like the initial Mark Williams deal, and the Nurkic trade (the one where we got a pick just now plus Colin Sexton, not the one where we received a better pick with Nurkic for taking out our trash Micić and gimpy Martin).
Deals all fit the pattern.
Hopefully Liam works out as a centerpiece of the Mark Williams deal.
Flashes of Gordon Hayward plus 38% from 3 at UConn prior to the ankle sprain and bout with pneumonia.
Peterson making a bunch of good deals. I liked selling high on Nick Richards as well.
I expect Jeff's next trade (likely for a center) is a real doozy.

He does give pre injury Hayward vibes. I think he had a fluky down season so we got a bargain on a promising player.

How can I of all people not love a UConn player though?

Had a bit of a morbid curiosity as to what a Nurklear winter would look like, but I figure now we're going to be super annoying on d, shoot a million 3s and get bullied inside. It's a dream come true. It's too late to be giddy, but I'm close.

If the league ever begins an investigation into the tanking epidemic (lmao, but just imagine anyway) this should be one of the first pieces of evidence brought forth against the Jazz. My most charitable reading is Utah paid a 2nd to strengthen a fellow bottom feeder to increase their lotto odds, that at least makes some twisted sense. Otherwise Ainge Jr is just a nepo baby who got worked over badly.
Honestly think there's something to the supposed quid pro quo for Bailey, but I wouldn't blame the Jazz for trying to help their odds. I know about Peterson but even the ones in the next tier, like Edgecombe's replacement at Baylor, this stud Lopez with the Breakers, and Dyson Daniel's little bro... whoa...

Re: Sexy Time: The Collin Sexton Thread
so of course this trade is an easy A in isolation as Nurkic is deadweight worthless
however
if the theory that everyone is postulating that this was essentially an extended draft day trade to let the Jazz secure Ace, then I think we got kind of hosed on that value so idk. the outcomes are the same in the end but the narrative changes from a whatever draft followed by a great trade to us getting solidly finessed. perhaps I'll keep my head in the sand

Always liked Sexton, wanted to draft him in the Bridges draft. Great backup guard for us, I assume Kon will start at the 2 and the team will try to unload Green this offseason

Re: Sexy Time: The Collin Sexton Thread
I think this has to have a link to draft as it is such a win for us. If it does it makes the draft a solid A from a B.
Kon (the player we actually wanted most after Flagg, Harper, VJ) plus Collin Sexton (young talent at our second biggest position of need), a second round for capital pick AND basically another late first in value (what we got for TAKING on Nurkic in first place). That must have beat the WASH offer and represents good value for moving down a spot. Hats off.
If we can land a vet playable center without blowing through draft chips or a stud center by cashing some in, that's a heckuva good summer. We have 3 first round teenagers to develop too. Hopefully they are all going to get better for the next couple years at least. Let's see how it goes.....!

I would not assume Kon starts over Collin Sexton. That would surprise me.
Sexton is going to contribute more towards wins, and I think with Sexton in a walk year, Hornets only have 1 year audition to see what he looks like next to LaMelo.

I kind of see Sexton as someone who is worth a protected 1st to some teams.
Moving Nurkic without attaching draft capital is worth a 1st.

I hope a team will give us one for him before the deadline next season!
This had to go down with the Jazz first just offering us Sexton for Nurk straight up and we said no. Why else would they have offered to include the pick.

Re: Sexy Time: The Collin Sexton Thread
If we resign Tre Mann, then I think it makes sense to start Sexton.
LaMelo- Sexton as starters and Mann- Kon as backups.
However, if we let Tre walk, then I think Sexton is more likely to be the 6th man with LaMelo and Kon starting.

Think it’s as simple as he wants to make sure Ace and Clayton are taking as many shots as possible. But it is interesting he got literally nothing back for Sexton
