Re: Shams: Sexton+2nd for Nurkic
I don't get why we are getting the second. Jeff Peterson has pulled a heist here.
I love this trade. Sexton is younger, cheaper and better than Nurkic and we get a likely good second as well.

Good on CHA. Austin trying to tank Simons' trade value on his way out the door. Jerk.

The only way we should have traded Sexton and Collins was packaging them together and take bad back bad salary for FRP’s. If it’s not that you sure as hell get a 2nd if you send these guys out individually. To get a player we don’t need and send a 2nd is bananas.
Hopefully this is a step that has 1-3 steps after it planned and it makes sense here shortly. Otherwise…what in the hell.
Feels like Kessler is gone
At this point, Pelinka needs to empty the clip
Knecht, 2031, pick swap in 2028, 2030, 2032 (limited protections)
Can add in Rui+expiring/Vando (up to Utah) for Collins if you guys value Rui mroe than Collins

If Kessler was gone, wouldn't Hornets be the one to trade for him in this deal?
Likely more about negotiation of Kessler's extension

Maybe they didnt want to move assets for him?
Why in the world would Utah want all these Centers?

Its a great question and even more worth asking when you consider that
1) The Jazz already have plenty of big men
2) The Jazz aren't even trying to compete anyway
Why add the 2nd? It's a mystery

Just the deal smallest like Utah trying to get rid of Sexton. Jazz are trying to tank and pick up good young players in FA. If they lost Kessler then I don't see them desperate for some vet C. They would take the Ls.

Well, my valuation of Sexton was off wildly.

I honestly don't understand what is going on here. But, looking forward to David Locke telling me that the Jazz needed to balance the roster and that's why. (Ok, the thought of hearing that makes me vomit a little in my mouth)
I hope there is another shoe to fall, because this is just moronic.

You’re not the only one eating crow. I thought he had a decent amount of positive value.
Boy was I wrong.

Makeup trade for hornets not trading 4 to Wash, who then would have taken Ace. only explanation that makes any sense here.

The Donovan Mitchell trade keeps looking worse and worse for Ainge. They still have Lauri but overpaid him on a $238 mil contract.

It's the most straightforward explanation I've seen yet.
So really Hornets indirectly traded Nurkic + 4 for Sexton + 5 and still got their guy Kon.
During that same 1st round, Hornets traded their other key center, Mark Williams.
I believe Peterson began negotiations with some team for his center target before going further into negotiations to trade Mark Williams the first time to the Lakers.
Would be something if the Lakers and Hornets were bidding on the same center before the Lakers balked at the price (then overpaid for Mark Williams only to reclaim trade assets).
It has been written...

Re: Shams: Sexton+2nd for Nurkic
Sexton should have more value than this as a sixth man - so long as he's willing to accept that role. Confidence is an attribute, until it's not.
The Hornets defense is going to be comically bad this season.

Re: Shams: Sexton+2nd for Nurkic
Deal makes no sense for Utah. Maybe they're re-balancing the roster before they trade a center (Kessler?). Maybe an agent is forcing their hand?
Utah drafted Clayton Jr. Sexton, Nurkic and Clayton are all represented by Rich Paul. From Rich Paul's perspective, it makes sense to not 'allow' Clayton to go to a team full of small guards that wanna chuck. Sexton fits well in Charlotte. He might even start a lot considering Ball's injury record.
Or Ainge is just washed up. It's crazy how GMs can get washed up. Masai and Ainge were elite, then made a bunch of mediocre moves.
Utah started their rebuild with 2 great trades. After that fumbled by not selling Lauri when his value was high. Refused to tank and got medicore picks which busted (George, Williams). Missed on every pick other than Filipowski who's a steal. 4 years into a rebuild they have nothing to show for.

This trade seems all sorts of out of character for Danny Ainge. However it doesn’t matter much if it’s a mistake since the stakes are relatively low for Utah even so

Your valuation isn’t off. This isn’t the market speaking. This is a boneheaded move by a GM who gave up assets when he didn’t need to.
Dumars trades weren’t fair market value, the market speaking, or whatever people like to say. It was a GM being stupid. And unless this trade is part of a larger multiple deals coming down the pipeline it was an incredibly stupid move.
If this new version of the Jazz tanking is the Jazz giving up assets so you give young guys minutes it’s an incredibly stupid way to tank. I’d much rather do what we did last season and get fined. I don’t care if it’s more respectable in the other GM’s minds, it’s irresponsible management of assets. It’s literally the exact opposite of doing a good job as a GM.
